You can’t fault the seller for honesty.

“I am selling a jeep 1967 cj5. It is a very rare tuxedo mark 4 model. Lets be clear this jeep needs some work. The brakes are untested. I had it running this summer and has some new parts on it. It has a fiberglass tub and front end. dauntless v6 with a saganaw 4 speed trans. I never drove it on the road and can not guarantee anything. I bought it from a garage as abandoned and do not have a title for it. frame looks good tires are shot. top is old, but is in ok condition. Justin 717-424-7462”

(08/31/2010) It runs.  The best part is the odd top.

“1961 Willy. Still runs great. Original everything! Only 11,000 original miles!!! Needs a little tender loving care but a great vehicle. Just got it registered. I used to use it around the ranch but I have no need for it anymore. Asking $1400.”

HOG spotted this nice looking CJ-5, though the rear end is a little high.

“You are bidding on a 1955 Willys CJ-5 that has been completely restored, and is in absolutely beautiful condition. Restoration was completed 2 years ago, and has been stored in a heated garage ever since, only to be driven to car shows and for a cruise around town on sunny days. Please read below for a complete description of the different parts of the Willys CJ-5 … lots more info on ebay and more pics here:  http://www.flickr.com/photos/42952603@N03/sets/72157625085142976/

Saving A CJ-5 from a field

• CATEGORIES: CJ5, Features, Women & Jeeps • TAGS: This site contains affiliate links for which I may be compensated.

One day a while back I got an email from a new reader named Jan. She spotted a CJ-5 sitting in a field for $500 and had a question about the VIN# and the model.  We solved the VIN question and then I learned more about how Jan acquired this Jeep.

Jan wrote, “I really didn’t buy it, just offered to get it off his farm. He had a sign on it for $500.00 or best offer. All my friends are laughing at me and indicating it’s the uglist thing they ever saw…… but I fell in love with it!”

After bartering for the Jeep, Jan managed to sell the plow locally, which meant she was actually up a few hundred dollars.  However, the body was so bad she knew she had to replace it, so she located a fiberglass tub for cheap in Indiana.  She has also found a local mechanic that verified the frame was in good condition and the engine should restore easily.  So, hopefully, next spring Jan will be driving around in a “free” jeep.  Congrats Jan!

Here’s is the jeep with the top removed.

And here is the ‘new’ fiberglass body
