Rare DJ-5 non-mail jeep. Needs a little body work on the driver’s fender, but otherwise this looks like a rare find in good shape. This is a former US Army vehicle (no pic of a Gov plate).

I am moving and this needs a new home. I brought this vehicle to TX from Georgia. I did not have sufficient evidence of ownership so it has a blue Texas bonded title in my name.”

changing the engine oil – $39,
was Postal blue, then 2 shades of green, then Police blue,
original rear door had no glass,
so found a door w glass and installed it – orange – $150.
Marginal rust, great shape for it’s age.
Doesn’t take up much room, can sit outside.”

Runs and drives, though the battery died over the holidays.

“This is truly a magical Jeep DJ-5, which was originally in service in Las Vegas, NV. After being decommissioned the Jeep was relocated by the previous owner to Tucson where it has sat unused for sometime. I have done as much digging as possible about this DJ-5, but what I’ve discovered is mostly from going over the Jeep.

Here is what I know:
– The original Audi designed engine has been replaced with a indestructible 1978 AMC crafted in-line 6 cylinder, which was specific to the DJ-5.
– The transmission has been replaced and has less than 50 miles on it.
– The underside of this DJ-5 is pristine. NO RUST. The body does have rust, but is all cosmetic and could easily be cleaned up.
– Interior is in good shape. The original mail tray has been removed and left side passenger seat added.
– The electrical/wiring needs attention for lighting. Both headlamps need grounding wires replaced and one front right-side turn signal needs to be replaced. Rear brake lights are working, but turn signals will need fresh wiring.

Looks like a good price, though it isn’t clear that $1098 covers everything.

“Old mail Jeep in great condition. Runs and drives really well. SO MUCH FUN TO DRIVE! My intentions were to 100% restore it as a collectors piece but I’ve been very busy with work and we are in the process of moving. I do not need to sell but would like to not worry about it at this time. As time goes on I’ll continue to restore it slowly and the price will go up if I sell later on. “Two DJ-5 Postal Jeeps for sale. Projects, not running, I have a title for the green one, but the white one is in much better shape, no title for the white one. The roof rack is crappy PVC. Both appear complete, 2.5l 4 cylinder engines, 3-speed automatic transmission. Combine the two for a really nice cheap running Jeep that will turn heads.”
