“This is a Forward Control Jeep turned into a tractor. It has beefed up springs, a rear Power Take-Off with an agri splined shaft, and an electric fan to enhance cooling at slow speeds. Has not run in years, tires are shot. Would make a great enclosed cab mower, or could be fitted with a backhoe.”

UPDATE: This ad published in the Los Angeles Times, June 15, 1962, by the Alaskan Camper Factory, welcomed Dorothy and Louise back into the United States after their trip around the world in an FC-170 (with an Alaskan camper, of course).

===================

Originally Published October 06, 2012: Highways Across the Horizon was written by Dorothy Rogers, who previous wrote Jeopardy in the Jeep.  I received a copy of it in the mail last week.  I knew the book was about traveling through Asia, but there were two things I didn’t know.  The first think I learned was that she and her travel partner Louise, traveled all the way around the world, starting and ending in New York.  The second surprise was their vehicle of choice:  a FC-170 with a camper.   Craig confirmed today that Dorothy and Louise piloted only the third known FC to make it around the world.  I can’t wait to read about their adventure.

Here are FC related pics:

“Hello Everyone. I’m posting my 57 Jeep FC for sale. I have way to many projects going on so I’m thinning the garage out. I really hate to sell it but it is neccessary and would really like it to go to a good home. I purchased it about a year ago or so. As you can tell it’s been out in the elements and has been treated pretty roughly unnecessarily. She is very rough but is at least a foundation for a build. I really liked what roam auto did with there FC. If you have a way with metal it is possible to fix the cab and even swap it to another frame. Here are the basics: 1957 Jeep FC 170 226 hurricane inline 6 No title! Bill of sale only. 6ft wide, bumper to bumper 15ft Let the pictures be the best description!”

These are now getting super hard to find in even reasonable condition.
Dont ask me to come and look at it if you dont have cash and a trailer to take it home with you.

“It was a barn find and I am in way over my head and do not have the time or space for this project. Supposedly it ran and was driven to where it was parked in a shop and sat there since 2004. The engine does turn over but I do not want to actually try and start it with out flushing the tank and lines. I don’t know much about it except for it’s rare and it’s a Jeep. No major rust. Floors are still intact. It’s needs lots of love but is very solid. I just do not have time for it.

Offers are being entertained until Saturday the 15th. Current bids are up to $7,000. No low ballers or tire kickers. Serious buyers only.

4 cylinder engine
Looks like a newer transfer case”
