Importantly, the allure of buying a project jeep can be romantic. The reality of restoring a jeep can be quite different, expensive and overwhelming without the right tools and resources. I thought this looked like a good price, until I realize there were 3 zeros behind the ’55’. The bumper appears incorrect. The seller notes it has been used in films.
“This is a 1942 Ford GPW Military Jeep. Serial #’s on frame reflect the manufacturing date as well as the title. It is in excellent condition and Runs exceptionally. The seats are torn, but can be replaced with after market parts. It has a willy’s 4 cylinder engine that purrs like a kitten. It has the original 3 speed manual transmission and the transfer case (3 granny low gears) works well also. It even has the front wheel engage/disengage shifter. All guages, anti-aircraft lights, gun racks, first aid kit, spare tire, etc, are all still installed and work. The only thing not original are the new 11″ brakes. I swapped the 9″ for the 11″ because this is something that I wanted to drive around town, and the smaller/old style brakes wouldn’t cut it. I still have the original brakes to give to you if you ever want it perfectly restored. This is a one of a kind Vehicle. It has been used in many films also, so there is financial gain if you choose to put it out for time period movies and tv. Email me for questions.”

“Runs great! It is a Ford GPW Original 1943 Jeep, and comes with “F” on bolts and parts. Original restored frame, original engine runs perfectly, 6V electrical system, original restored seats. matching frame and engine serial numbers. Newer canvas top and seat cushions. One of the windows still has the “Ford” stamp! Five combat wheels. Axe, shovel and Jerry can included. Restoration by a Museum Professional. ALL gauges are working. Recently exchanged the original 6V starter with the more reliable modern starter, avoiding starter issues and battery bleed. But original starter provided with sale. A parade vehicle which generates lots of smiles!

UPDATE IV: After being deleted this is back on eBay again. A bidder decided to bid $50,000. Someone’s playing with the seller.

UPDATE III: Mike alerted me that some of these pics are now on an ebay auction. Person selling it is listed as brand new profile on Jan 19, 2014. I see no reason to doubt it is still a scam. It has been reported as potentially fraudulent.

UPDATE II: This scam has appeared on Craigslists. Lance forwarded pictures he received from the scammer. There are 17 total.
UPDATE: John looked into this scam and received the following email. It appears this seller is likely running the Google Wallet Scam (which I’d never heard of).

This jeep was completely taken down, sandblasted, and all of the rust was cut out and replaced with new metal. This jeep has been completely gone threw. The engine, T-84 transmission (gear box), Transfer case, breaks, steering box, Axles, starter, generator, Radiator, Carter WO Carb, voltage regulator, water pump and distributor have ALL been rebuilt by professional shops and receipts can be provided for all parts. The engine has a two year warranty. The Firestone tires, wiring harness, spare data plates, gas tank, tail lights and horn are all new replacements and are 100% correct. The jeep is still its original 6 volt configuration. The seat covers are new . All of the combat rims are strait originals. The battery is brand new and this jeep starts, drives, shifts and stops with no problems at all . I legally own a clear title, free of any liens or loans, under my name. Not interested in a trade and my final price is $4,500. Just want to sell it ASAP, I am using Google Wallet as my ex-wife suggested, she also sold her car, without any headaches! First of all please let me know where are you located ? I will also need to know if you require a loan ? Or the funds are available ?
