Importantly, the allure of buying a project jeep can be romantic. The reality of restoring a jeep can be quite different, expensive and overwhelming without the right tools and resources. I’m guess the compressor itself doesn’t work? This looks similar, yet different from the Hesse Hornet Compressor.

The Hesse Hornet was an air compressor manufactured by the Hess Manufacturing Company in the late 1940s(?). The compressor used a CJ-2A engine to run, but only pistons 1 & 4. The middle two pistons were used to compress air. Keith recently bought one of these and was going to part it out, but changed his mind and now wants to restore it. However, there isn’t much online about it. Below are the links we know about it so far. If you know of any additional info, please add it to the comments.

This has a CJ-2A L Head engine.
“1954 Hobart G200 D/C welder on trailer. Uses a CJ2A four cylinder Jeep engine. There is also a 120 volt outlet on the machine for running your power tools. The machine was just restored. Valves and valve seats were reconditioned, fuel and oil lines replaced, new belts, hoses and tune up parts. Generator bearings were repacked, brushes were replaced, radiator was cleaned and pressure checked. Body panels were stripped to bare metal and repainted with automotive paint. Machine was thoroughly tested and runs and welds perfect. Is ready to weld for another 56 years”

“i have a ww2 generator that is in excellent original working condition.model I cast iron briggs engine.tag reads type 206103,serial# 99832 which puts this engines mfg in 1944. this unit is in excellent original unboogered and unmolested with conditon.starts right up even after sitting for years. always kept in the dry.clean fuel tank and settling bowl.generator works awesome.all original paint and nelson ww2 era muffler.great for ww2 enactors or for a ww2 jeep.”

I’ve seen the engines used in a variety of ways, but not for a pump.
