Importantly, the allure of buying a project jeep can be romantic. The reality of restoring a jeep can be quite different, expensive and overwhelming without the right tools and resources. This runs and drives. It also comes with a lot of parts. I think that’s the original paint, too.
“Up for sale here is my M170 US Army ambulance jeep. It runs & moves under it’s own power. It originally had a 24 volt electrical system but was converted to 12 volt. I have most of all the parts needed to put it back to original US military condition. Windshield is correct, four rims are correct and one is a later 60’s era wheel (front left), radiator holds coolant, brakes inop, tires hold air, has some rot. I do not have the top bows, top, nor upper litter rails. No title but I will provide a bill of sale. Delivery possible if not too far away. Calls ONLY due to scammers & their lousy emails. (06/18/2012) Well, the price is right. Now, what does it fit?
“6′ wide by 11′ long has all hardware intact zippers, fasteners, etc
2 windows, one has small crack in plastic, one of the zippers may need a little adjustment, and the color is a bit faded on the red

I think the top needs to be a bit longer along with a bit of a gap on the passenger side . . .

Stretch Jeep,2 feet longer than a standard cj5. 2 feet added in the middle of frame and body by US MILITARY. ONLY 6500 M170 Jeeps made.

Has been stored in a Barn for the last 26 years. Virtually no rust. Had been repainted by previous owner,(originally military green).

Runs and drives, but needs polish at the very least. Looks like a good foundation for a restoration.

This might not be a bad price considering it has an overdrive. It doesn’t have a title though.

“I have a real nice jeep just to busy to restore it. It has very little rust out on it just one spot about a quarter in size. The engine supposedly runs when we bought it. We have never tried to fire it but the older gentleman we bought it from said he started it weekly. The oil in it was very clean and turns over. It was originally a 24 volt system but now a 12 volt. I have never tried firing it as I have been to busy. This vehicle will make an awesome dunes vehicle as its a real nice jeep that is a long wheel base. It can hold 2 or 3 rows of seating so a large family could use it or lots of storage room. It was originally an ambulance then radio jeep for the USN as its longer wheel base. It needs a good home that will either restore it back original or turn it into a jeep for a family fun. I have 5 projects ahead of it currently so it would be a few years for me to get to it so my lose is your gain. This jeep is so nice I wish I had the time to put into it but my other military vehicles are first. I have 2 spare rims for it also and a military pintle. The tires on it where the ones it came with but have swapped them for non flat ones.”

It looks a little rough. The seller has listed it poorly, so it has been available for a while. A buyer can probably pick it up cheaply.

This is a nicely rebuilt M-170.
“For sale is a completly restored 1954 Willys m-170. With only 1,400 miles on resotration. Rebuilt engine and transmission. Brakes have been completly rebuilt including new drums, shoes, wheel cylinders and backing plates. Body includes new floor pans and body has been completly redone. New CJ6 top. New wheels and new 31X10.50R15 Dunlop Radial Mud Rovers. Drives good and rides very well. Asking price is 9,500.00. Must really see to appreciate.”
