Importantly, the allure of buying a project jeep can be romantic. The reality of restoring a jeep can be quite different, expensive and overwhelming without the right tools and resources. Starting this (Wednesday) afternoon, I’ll be out of service until Friday morning. We have a narrow, though cool, window of weather to escape for two days in the motorhome. Ann’s feeling a little better and Dad is being moved from a hospital to a rehab place. So, we have a short window of independence.
This October 3, 1945, ad from Willys-Overland was published in the Evening Star, based in Washington, D.C.. The ad announces the appointment of Willys of Washington as an area distributer.
A Popular Science March 1954 photo and caption highlighted the use of a jeep engine as the driver of a centrifugal pump that creates a water jet capable of powering an aquatic mower.

“I’ve enjoyed my Willys pickup but time to move on to another project. Selling this great truck for someone else to enjoy. It’s 4-wheel drive and has a 327 Chevy 5-speed under the hood. Runs well and has been maintained regularly. Most recently changed the brake master cylinder, mounted a remote brake reservoir, replaced the started solenoid and replaced wipers. Winner of Best in Class award at the 2017 Bastrop car show.”

“THIS IS A UNIQUE JEEP PICKUP BECAUSE IT LOOKS LIKE A SNUB NOSE. THE FRONT OF THE RIG IS FLAT LIKE IT WAS HIT IN THE FRONT, BUT WAS JUST THE DESIGN. IT WAS ACTUALLY A VERY COOL LOOKING TRUCK. THE UNIT REQUIRED WEIGHTS UNDER THE BED TOWARD THE REAR SO IT WOULD NOT TIP ONTO ITS NOSE. THIS HAS A 4 CYLINDER ENGINE IN IT AS IT IS BASICALLY A HALF TON AND MOST OF THE FC 170 TRUCKS WERE AN INLINE 6 CYLINDER AS THEY WERE DESIGNED AS A 3/4 TON. IT HAD 4WD AND WAS A STICK SHIFT WITH NO SPECIAL AMENITIES LIKE A/C. MY UNCLE HAD ONE AND TO CARRY MORE PASSENGERS, WE WOULD SET ON THE ENGINE COVER TO RIDE ALONG. OKAY IN THE WINTER, BUT NOT SO GOOD IN THE SUMMER.
