1959-cj5-tucson-az9

“I bought this beauty 18 months ago with great aspirations of having a “fun garage project” for the same model and year of vehicle I learned to drive in way-back-when. Great intentions! Unfortunately, I have had practically ZERO time to work on it and my wife wants her garage back. Long-story-short….the first 1k gets it and I will have peace in the my home. By the end of this coming weekend, Sunday, 2/17, if it’s not gone, it gets donated to Kars-4-Kids.

What you get….1959 Willys CJ5 with a 225 Dauntless 6 cylinder, 3 speed, 4wd. I bought new drum brakes, brake cylinders, and master cylinder and those all go with it (I have receipts….$700). I drove it for about 10 miles right after I bought it and I realized the brakes were about to go…..and they did. I just never did the work on installation. Also, a new steering wheel….nothing wrong with the existing one other than it has some wear…for you to swap out. Also included is a Willys parts catalog. Engine runs fine. Tires are all fine. Just has NO brakes.

If this is for you, you need to trailer it home….remember it has NO brakes. I have clear title. Clock is ticking.”

I have not driven the Jeep (no brakes) but the engine does run. Come look and make me an offer. I need to sell this Jeep. Ask me about my other jeep also.”

“Real deal WWII army jeep, looks like it was used as a highway dept vehicle after it went surplus. Ford GPW body on a Willy’s MB frame. Basically straight tub but needs a gas tank well. Missing the right front fender. No running gear. Frame is good except for a crack that will need further welding but holds for now – see pic. These are easy rigs to restore and a blast to drive when you’re done, and they take up no space to store. Or, start with this and build whatever 4×4 you want! Clear title.”

Just a Few Posts Today

• CATEGORIES: Features This site contains affiliate links for which I may be compensated.

Just a handful of posts today.

So, I’m supposed to fly out of Virginia on Thursday AND I’m flying standby (hey, it’s free). However, there’s one hitch. An unusually massive snow fall/blizzard hit the Pasco area (well, a good portion of Washington State), which has caused airport and interstate closures. Another heavy snow is supposed to arrive there today and additional snow will arrive Tuesday and Wednesday.

The question is, will I make it home if I leave Thursday? I can probably make it from Richmond to Minnesota (that’s my transfer point), but whether I can make it from there to Pasco remains to be seen, as the closed airports will likely force passengers to filled up subsequent flights.

I like the adventure of it, not knowing if I will get stranded in Minneapolis or not. Stay tuned!

1941 Article Introducing the Jeep

Mario shared this article on Facebook from the May 25, 1941, issue of the Des Moines Register. A report describes his experience riding in one and imagines how it might be used. I find the claim that it would go “87-miles-an-hour–without opening it up” a stretch, but that was likely just a propaganda plug.
