1963 Coot 4×4
OBO Vancouver, WA
Probably not a 1963 but what do I know, from what I found 1967 was the bulk of the build out of the COOT and 1968, but I don’t know a ton past doing a large newspaper lift on them over the past few days, They are pretty neat rigs. Kinda a big rabbit hole for me but it was fun researching these and no one had them clipped so it should be some new to you stuff coming up.

Not sure what this one is with the side bars on the side, another of let me know what you think. Full spread to follow this post.

Dave posted one back in 2020, much nicer looking,

COOT Amphibious Articulating 4×4

Here is a series of clippings on the COOT 4X4, its a really interesting vehicle, that was built in the 1960’s they made quite a few of these, they seem pretty capable for what they are, with a 12HP Air Cooled Engine, they had a super climbing ability at 75% grade, that had to seem pretty sketchy at the time. Not the best in the water but on a calm crossing they appear to be able to get the job done, but something with a little bit of wake and it would be pretty dangerous to cross something like that I would think.

Overall there was a single positing Dave did back in 2020 that I ran across, then there was one this weekend I found.

Due to the work this took, I wont have a ton of posts, these eat up the eWillys time I have set aside, so not a Jeep or a Willys, but I was fascinated by them, they seemed to be a neat part of the 4×4 story that could use a small lift to record some of the information.

Here are some COOT Ads from the late 1960’s, mainly it looks like they were launched in 1967 and had built out 1000 of them by 1968. The factory was in CHICO, CA.

These range from 1967 to 1969
