Importantly, the allure of buying a project jeep can be romantic. The reality of restoring a jeep can be quite different, expensive and overwhelming without the right tools and resources. I had a friend of mine up in OR check it out to buy it for me if it was in decent shape. I just got off the phone with him. When I talked to the owner, he pretty much said, “hook up the battery and it will start right up”. When my buddy got there, no go. By his words, engine acted locked up and starter and cables were heating up badly from trying to turn it over. Will need new tires to tow. Hitch is bent. Looks like it has been leaking oil from either the head or main. Hard to tell as the cowl was tough to see around. Some one might be able to look deeper into it, but I passed. He will probably negotiate on the price as well.
I don’t want to scare anyone off, just anticipate a parts unit or project 🙂
