1946 CJ-2A Trenton, KY **SOLD**

UPDATE: **SOLD** Was on eBay

“I am selling this for my father. He doesn’t have a computer and is to the point where he cant see and hear well so I am doing this for him. I apologize up front if I don’t have all of the information for you. He bought this several years ago with the idea of rebuilding it to be just like the one he drove as a kid. He didn’t get that far on it. I actually just pulled it out of his garage, hosed it off and took the pictures. Nothing fancy here. It is a vehicle in need of complete restoration. He said he drove it in, so I know it ran/runs. The clutch works though I am sure they could use some attention to make the lever work better. I think he was working on the brakes when he stopped working on it. It needs all kinds of work on the body, lots of rust issues as you can see from the pictures. It looked to me like the frame has been repaired in places. He was talking about buying new fenders and body parts, I suppose they are available on line. The canvas is in decent shape, may be an issue with some of the clear plastic. The seats look decent. The rubber tires look average except for the one that is flat, it will need replacement. The inside of the bed will need to be straightened. It looks like it had somebody heavy stand on it and it dips just a bit over the underside frame, I don’t know if you can see it in the pictures. And some thing got on it and bubbled the paint there, but of course, it would need new paint everywhere. If you would like to see it, it is near Ft Campbell, KY.”

1953 CJ-3B Tucson, AZ eBay

UPDATE:  This is now on eBay was listed for $3999 on Craigslist.

(07/17/2012) The seller notes that this is in great original condition.  It looks solid and while there is lots of original jeep here, the drain holes have been plugged and it appears from the pictures that the front and lower sides have been painted differently than the rear portion of the body.  I suspect there has been some body work done.

“VINTAGE 1953 WILLYS JEEP CJ3B IN REBUILT ORIGINAL CONDITION. I HAVE THE ORIGINAL WHEELS AS THE JEEP HAS AFTERMARKET TIRES/WHEELS. 4 CYL, 3SPD,HIGH/LOW TRANSFER CASE, 6 VOLT. SEATS HAVE BEEN RECOVERD WITH REAR SEAT/LOCKABLE STORAGE UNIT ADDED. GREAT CONDITION. BODY IS ORIGINAL STEEL WITH NO PATCHING, HAS SOFT TOP AND DOORS, HEATER. ALL GUAGES WORK, LIGHTS WORK ETC. ENGINE, TRANSMISSION, STEERING, BRAKES, GENERATOR, TRANSFER CASE HAVE ALL BEEN REBUILT AND EVRYTHING WORKS. RIGHT NOW IT’S RUNNING RICH BECAUSE I REMOVED THE CARB. AND ADJUSTED IT, BUT I’M NOT A PRO SO I AM STILL WORKING ON THAT. OTHERWISE IT PURRS.”

1951 M-38 Crestline, CA **SOLD**

• CATEGORIES: M-38 • TAGS: This site contains affiliate links for which I may be compensated.

UPDATE: **SOLD** Was on eBay.

The seller has some thorough pictures of this jeep.

“Up for auction is a 1951 unrestored, all original, M38 Willys Army Jeep. I have had this M38 for about 9 years. I bought it from a collector in Southern California. Since I got the Jeep it has been stored in my garage. Initially I drove it around town and it ran great. Then I decided to repaint it and let it sit too long without driving it and the leather parts in the carburetor dried out so it would only idle. Then I decided to replace the fuel tank and never had time to finish the project. I am self-employed so free time is hard to find.
This is a nice Jeep but it would benefit from a full restoration. There is some rust at the Hat Channels below the Jeep. That is all I could ever find. It does look like the driver side and passenger side floors were replaced. They are not rusted but they don’t look original to me. I did repalce the front brake cylinders, brake shoes and the Master Cylinder. The tires and tubes were purchsed new about 3 1/2 years ago. They have never been driven on. The Jeep has been stored on jack stands so the Jeep hasn’t been sitting on them either, except for when I took these pictures. I bought new seats years ago but never installed them. it has a full soft top and all of the rods and supports. I think there was a tear in the top along one of the sides. It has the soft doors as well.

The fuel tank is new, as is the sending unit, fuel cap, fuel filler neck and any other fuel tank related parts. The front hubs were rebuilt. I also have an antenna bracket and antenna set which was never installed. The Jeep is 12 volt. I also have all of the available DOD manuals, as well as a few other after market manual and the Military Jeep Restoration DVD video set.”

1960? CJ-6 Princeton, IN **SOLD**

• CATEGORIES: CJ-6 This site contains affiliate links for which I may be compensated.

UPDATE: **SOLD** Was $1400

“its a kaiser-willys. not too many of these out there, really. the cj-6 is a cj-5 that the factory stretched 20″ between the door opening and the rear wheel well, making the wheelbase 101″. mechanically the only difference from a cj-5 is the rear driveshaft, brake line, and wiring harness, basically anything that spans the 20″ section in the middle is specific to the 6 all other parts a re cj-5 parts. i believe this to be a 1960 model, and you will need to apply for a lost tittle, as it doesn’t have one. the f-134 4cyl does fire and idle, and i will continue to tinker in my spare time to get more of the jeep functioning. it has the stock T-90 3 speed and Dana 18 T-case. the drivetrain seems good and turns free although i have never driven it. the jeep is mostly complete, but the braking system will need some attention. the sheet metal is mostly bad, but everyone has their own criteria for that, and some of the floorboards have been replaced. really hate to sell it, as i like unusual and rare vehicles, just dont have time for it now. email ok, prefer text, no calls please”

The General Purpose Car?

• CATEGORIES: Features, Magazine This site contains affiliate links for which I may be compensated.

I received the June 19, 1943, issue of Liberty Magazine today.  I bought it because it has an article titled “The Amazing Blitz Buggy”.  I don’t have time to scan it tonight, but should have it read, scanned and posted in the next couple of days.  But, I did want to make a quick comment about it.

Having glanced at the article, two things surprised me.  One, it was written by the President of Willys Overland Joseph W. Frazer. Two, he claims the official name of the vehicle was “General Purpose Car”.  You can see that claim in the highlighted portion of the article.  That could be the reason the term “General Purpose” vehicle has been appeared numerous times.
