Being an Iowan I thought I would try and track down Reynold Foell. Unfortunately he passed away in 2008 at the age of 90. Here is a little information from his obit reference how he got into that photo.

He served in the US Army during World War II in the European African Middle Eastern Theater.
He fought at the Invasion of Normandy Beach. Reynold was present for General Patton’s speech.

After the war he came home to Iowa and farmed until his retirement.

Interesting history, thanks Matt. I’m very interested in the events of that decade. Everyone in the whole wide world had their lives turned upside down.

This is probably an army publicity photo. My late uncle and two others were featured in April, 1945 “Yank” magazine on leave site-seeing in Paris, and meeting the locals. It seems to me that U. S. Army propaganda wanted everyone to think that the boys fighting fighting the war didn’t have it so bad. This photo reminds me of that featured article and photo shoot.
