1951 M-38 Riverside, Ca **Status Unknown**

• CATEGORIES: M-38 This site contains affiliate links for which I may be compensated.

UPDATE:  **Status Unknown**

(03/09/2012) There’s been lots of work done to this project, but still plenty of project left.

“1951 M-38 flat fender 95% completed project. This was never supposed to be a frame off restoration/rebuild; you all know how that goes. But there was nothing I touched that wasn’t bent broken or needing to be replaced. I have complete photo documentation, I can send as many as you would like, of is jeep being taken down to the bare frame and build it from the ground up. Everything has been fixed, replaced or upgraded. I will make a list but there is just so much replaced that is practically a new jeep. It is not stock and was never intended to be a stock M-38. I have over $20,000 in parts, and that is what I have in receipts, not counting the dollar outlay without receipts. Many, many hours have gone into this jeep in the last three years. I am 61 years old, bad knees, shoulder, back and I lost my build partner so I am on my own. My physical condition precludes me from finishing this project without paying a fabricator to finish it for me. It’s time to move on for me. Make me an honest offer and I will consider it.

Article on eBay’s Strategy

• CATEGORIES: News This site contains affiliate links for which I may be compensated.

I found this article by the New York Times, eBay’s Strategy for Taking on Amazon, which explores eBay’s efforts to challenge Amazon. This is particularly interesting to me, because in September of 2013 eBay radically altered the commissions it paid third parties (like eWillys) who send buyers to it’s website. Since many of us have bought or sold on eBay, I thought I’d explain this a little.

Prior to September, if someone clicked on a link from eWillys, visited eBay, bid on an auction (or purchased something), and won, I’d receive a commission. For me it was a good way to generate a little money and motivated me to find unusual items on eBay that I thought would interest folks. For eBay, it’s a good way to encourage niche sites to send them high quality traffic. It was a win-win.

However, in September eBay altered the formula. Instead of awarding commissions based on a time frame that might have tracked a user over a 7 day window, now eBay will only pay a commission to a 3rd party if they purchase (buy-it-now) or win an auction within a 24 hour period. As you can imagine, there was a flurry of angry discussions from eBay traffic partners who watched in stunned amazement as their earnings suddenly plummeted by 50-80% (some were earning 10s of thousands of dollars). The overriding argument for the change was that eBay was transitioning away from auctions to a buy-it-now mentality.

In fact, in the article I mentioned at the start of the post, the New York Times claims that auctions currently represent only 30% of the purchases made on eBay. Even more interesting is how eBay is using its systems to act as the technology provider for large brick-and-mortar companies, such as Home Depot and Toys “R” Us. The company is becoming more and more focused on retail buyers and stepping away from their original core utility: auctions.

Searchlight Parade

• CATEGORIES: Features This site contains affiliate links for which I may be compensated.

During this parade Joe reports that a little girl yelled, “Look Mommy! They are searching for SANTA!!

searchlight_parade

Joe writes, “Christmas parade took place in Rehoboth Beach, DE recently and we were honored to join ranks with members of the 261st Coast Artillery group from nearby Fort Miles. They brought along their 1942 Sperry Searchlight to liven up the parade route. This war surplus light has an 8 million candlepower beam with a 25 mile range. The rig successfully TURNED OFF every streetlight it got near and the float driver for the parade entry directly behind us had to wear SUNGLASSES during the entire parade.

Videos were taken in the parade form-up area prior to the start of the parade………Jeeps included an M151A2 (depicting US Navy Shore Patrol) and a Willys MB.”
