1953 Photo and Story from Alaska

• CATEGORIES: News This site contains affiliate links for which I may be compensated.

Paul’s Goddess is always watching jeep photos. This photo includes a good story. This photo and story was assembled by Laurel Bill and posted to Facebook. I couldn’t locate an original story and link on Laurel’s website.

Alaska-photo-deborah

“A group of Cordova Airlines passengers boarded jeeps at the May Creek Airfield in 1953 to go check out the ghost town of McCarthy and the old mining town of Kennicott where the Kennecott Copper Mine had operated. The two men in uniform were the pilots of the plane that flew these folks to the area, and the caption said they were having just as good a time as any of the passengers.

McCarthy was the turnaround station for the Copper River Northwestern Railroad, and hotels, restaurants and stores quickly popped up. Since no gambling or drinking alcohol was allowed in the mining town of Kennicott, McCarthy offered many diversions for the miners and railroad workers with its saloons and “red light” district.

At its peak, about 800 people lived in the town. But when the copper mine closed in 1938, McCarthy became a ghost town.”

Hamilton Surrey Pedal Jeep

• CATEGORIES: Features, toys • TAGS: This site contains affiliate links for which I may be compensated.

UPDATE: This was on eBay. Looks like the ad was pulled.

This looks in reasonably good shape.

“This is a vintage 1950s pink jeep pedal car reminiscent of the Elvis jeep in Blue Hawaii. My guess is that this piece is rare. It is 41 inches long and 29 inches tall. There is some minor surface rust in a few places and some minor wear to the paint. The top needs to be cleaned and there are a couple either splits or little holes at the corners but not bad at all. It’s really an amazing piece. I would rather not ship but you can make arrangements to ship it or pick it up, whatever you prefer.”

This surrey seems to have brought the photographer to his knees. Or, maybe it was the woman sitting on the hood (Get off that hood woman!).

1959 FC-150 & 1960 FC-170 Jackson, MO **SOLD**

• CATEGORIES: FC150-FC170-M677 This site contains affiliate links for which I may be compensated.

UPDATE: **SOLD** Was $3000

There’s some value here.

“1959 Jeep FC-170. Cab has some front end damage. The windshield is good, no cracks or chips. The door glass and side windows are intact. The back glass is cracked. All of the glass except the windshield is flat and can be cut by a glass company fairly cheap. Has the original flat head 6 cylinder with a T90 three speed transmission and a Dana 18 transfer case. The flat bed is steel and very well made. Also had a 4″ lift installed several years ago. Have not tried to start the engine. Was a true barn find. Will need the steering fixed as it seems the pitman arm splines are stripped. Everything will need to be gone through: brakes, wiring, steering…etc. Have a good Missouri title in my name.

1960 Jeep FC-150. Cab has rust above the windshield and floor pans. No glass. Does not run. Has the 4 cylinder engine ,T90, & Dana 18. Have the bed also. The title was signed by a previous buyer but never registered in their name.”
