I shipped a restored 1945 GPW to a buyer from New Caledonia last year. He said his dad drove an old Willys when he was in the service. Maybe he is driving down that same street in 2017, hopefully not the wrong way.

How cool would it be for someone to recreate that shot if old town looks similar (probably doesn’t).

    Hello everyone,
I’m Nicholas Mathieu, born and raised in New Caledonia. The Willys are definitively a part of our history since the US army landed on our Island for WWII.
Our grandfathers used to talk about this period such amazing for the countrymen they were to see so many soldiers and the huge infrastructures they bring on the island.
I will be very honored to buy this photo and if you have anothers. My contact is mathieunicholas@yahoo.fr
Will be great to transmit this part of our history to my kids.

And to answer the question, the town changed a bit but I recognize the building behind the jeep in few seconds! It was took on Alma Street.

    Hi Nicholas,

Thanks so much for your information on New Caledonia. The fact you could recognize the location was wonderful!

I just searched eBay and it appears that photo sold. I’ve updated this post. However, I found this booklet from 1942 that might be of interest to you: http://www.ebay.com/itm/Vintage-1942-New-Caledonia-Photo-Bk-Sidney-Reichenbach-/120897839788?hash=item1c2612a2ac:m:mp1_SCAG8sz1L8kJf-zpyog

    Thanks again,
