This is the earliest use of jeep hubs as winches that I can remember documenting. It was publishing in the July 1943 issue of Popular Mechanics. The McCain hub was a similar, much later idea.

“I have 3 CJ2A jeeps that im going to part out and sell or I can sell the jeeps all together. Im not sure on the exact years but they are between 1946-1951. One is complete and was running and driving about 3 years ago. it has been parked inside. the body is rough but could be fixed. Im asking 1500.00 for it. The other two are mainly parts jeeps. 2600.00 for all three jeeps or i can separate. they are worth 3 times that parted out but id like to just sell them as is.”
