Importantly, the allure of buying a project jeep can be romantic. The reality of restoring a jeep can be quite different, expensive and overwhelming without the right tools and resources. Originally published October 2016: The American Chain & Cable Company’s Manley Division produced these Jeep Wrecking Cranes in the late 1940s. I can’t imagine there are too many of these around. This brochure is from a 1948 Industrial Equipment book.

“1946 Willys CJ2A Jeep Project
Rebuilt 4 cyclinder flat head engine
Trans and t-case also gone through and clutch. New u- joints. Completely new suspension, springs, shackles, shocks and u -bolts. Rewired to 12 volt with an alternator. Brakes are all new. Has Warn locking hubs, bikini top, and rear seat.
Floors are ingreat shape, have been repaired and covered in bed liner.
Seats were recovered and are in good condition. Has a tow bar. I put some used tires on it ,fronts are great, rears are scalloped and ride a little rough. Paint is a 20 footer.
Still missing some bits and pieces and interior wirring, gauge lights turn signals. Also no title, has a vin tag, owner died and title could not be found, spouse moved on without doing replacement title. DMV is not open and i can’t do the title work.”

White body with Black Line-X cab. 8000 lb. power take off winch, 3 speed manual transmission with Warren all range over-ride. American Racing 15″ white spoke wheels, Firestone Destination Mud Terrain tires.
Electronic ignition, complete brake job, hydraulic line lock emergency brake, Doetsch Enterprise 8095 shocks,
re-arced leaf springs with new shackle kits, new alternator with voltage regulator, poly gas tank.

Big Tex 18′ steel deck tandem axle – electric brake car hauler trailer with rock shield, stake pockets and welded D-rings, 2 – 5/16″ bull dog coupler. 4 – 10,000 lb. ratchet race car tie downs, RKI aluminum box mounted on tongue, spare tire mount.
Jeep accessories – Surco Safari basket on Pannon rack, additional rear rack with 2 metal 5-gallon gas cans, 4-V bar mud chains, HI-Lift jack with off road base and lift mate, axe and shovel with brackets for rack mount, tow bar for 2″ ball.”
UPDATE: Status Unknown. Was $45,000.
Nice looking FC.
“Four Wheel Drive, 4 Cylinder engine, 3 speed + Overdrive transmission. 40, 957 Original miles. The FC-150 was only manufactured from 1957-1964. This Jeep is #150 out of #169 that was produced in the last year of production. Restored and is in Cherry condition. Have won first place in Fair Parade and numerous Car Shows with this FC. Located in Hamilton, MT.”

Given extra parts are included, this may well be worth a look.
“1954? Willys CJ3B mostly complete except for engine head and correlated components above the bad engine block. All running gear is in tact, just needs motor and complete restoration. Don’t ask me if it is rusty, YES it is sixty six years old for crying out loud! And no i will not deliver and i am not parting it out, period! Price is $800 and those who know it is well worth this in parts alone so don’t bother wasting your (i said your) time lowballing me because I won’t answer you if you do, if you show up and low ball me you’ll go home without the jeep.
I also have a bunch of misc. random Willys Jeep parts i have collected over the years, if you’re needing something particular email me your needs and i will look to see if i have it. Parts for old Willys flatfenders pre Kaiser. 1941 through 1951 era. Most of what i have will need attention or some sort of repair before use.”
