“1950 Willys Cj3a. I bought this about 10 years ago in Idaho and decided I wanted to put the original L-Head back in. I found an engine in excellent condition, with a high compression head on it. I swapped the original engine, transmission, t-case back in, but didn’t really button the job up. I also started a dual master cylinder conversion, but haven’t finished that, so consequently it has no brakes now. But I’ve got the parts for that.

It’s got rust in the normal spots, especially in the channels on the belly, but the body’s actually in pretty good shape. I’ve kept it in my shop, never out in the rain.

Show up with a trailer and I’ll help you load it. I’ve got the title, but I never transferred it into my name, so it’s the previous owner’s Idaho title.”

“Driveshaft Guards Kit – Willys Vintage Jeep OEM CJ-3B CJ3B CJ5 CJ-5 FC-150 FC150. Condition is New.

Hello – pieces like this do not come around often. I cannot recall the last time that I saw a set of driveshaft guards for sale. This is an as-new Willys part in the original box. Original instructions are included. Packing newspaper confirms the build date as 1959-1960.

The loose pieces were sealed up in that cloth bag, I assume everything is there. All of the guards and brackets included are pictured. They all appear to be in excellent condition.

Look at the pics for fitment info. This kit says 3B, 5, and FC150. I can tell you that I have what appears to be the same kit on my CJ-2A from new. Maybe Willys labeled it only by the vehicles that they were producing in 1959 only. I don’t know, as I wasn’t there.

This will make the perfect accessory for your restoration, or buy it and copy it so everyone can buy a set of these… from you.

I was intending to put these on my CJ5 restoration, but I found a T98 4-speed trans for it. This kit will not working with a T98 since the trans is way bigger. So I am regretfully selling these to make more room for other stuff.”

1952 Article “The World’s Most Versatile Car”

• CATEGORIES: Features, Magazine, Old Images, Old News Articles This site contains affiliate links for which I may be compensated.

In the January 14, 1952, Newsweek put out an article about the jeep’s versatility. There are some interesting tidbits, such as the Chinese’s nickname for the jeep was “the vehicle of 10,000 capabilities”. The jeep was used to spear barracudas in the Virgin islands, play tag in Yakima, ski via jeep-joring in New England and Ontario, Canada,, and in Burma it was claimed that a jeep was once used to pull an elephant’s tooth.

The Sport of Jeep-Joring

• CATEGORIES: Features This site contains affiliate links for which I may be compensated.

UPDATE: More articles and better images have been added.

Originally published in November of 2014: Winter time means snow and ice for many folks. For people with jeeps, it means time to break out the skis, tow-rope and jeeps for some jeep-joring. Just mount yourself on some skis, tie the rope to the jeep, give a driver thumbs up and you’ll be jeep-joring behind a jeep like several generations before you. After all, how dangerous could it be?? **disclaimer: if you decide to do this and get hurt, this was not my idea. I’m only reporting it ….

Ski-Joring has been around for hundreds of years, though whether it started in Asia or in Europe is less clear.

When did jeep-joring begin? There’s evidence it was occurring as early as the winter of 1946-1947, in Ontario. These three articles suggest that the sport continued for at least seven years. The Violet Grafton image below made the rounds in a large number of papers.

Clipping from St. Joseph News-Press - Newspapers.com

Most of the Violet Grafton images were long and narrow, but this one was cropped differently:
