UPDATE: Status Unknown. Was listed at $2200.

This truck looks like a good foundation for a project. It does not run.

“I have a 1952 willies jeep i inherited from my grandpa. It is currently just sitting because I just graduated high school and don’t have the money to fix it up.

The body is in excellent condition. The interior is okay. It however, does not run.

Getting rid of this is something I am not looking forward to because it was from my grandpa and I would love to be able to keep it. I just do not want to see it sitting wasting away. This is a great project if you’re into old school vehicles.

UPDATE:  I posted this article back in 2010.  It’s been a few years, so I wondered if anyone newer to eWillys knows anything about the York-Hoovers?

A few days ago I was searching and came across a reference to the York-Hoover prototype. I’d never heard of the York-Hoover All-Terrain Prototype, but according to the YorkBlog, such a vehicle existed and could be viewed at the York County Heritage Trust’s Agricultural and Industrial Museum in Pennsylvania. So, I contacted the museum and received a response from the curator notifying me a few years ago the vehicle had been moved to the Motts Military Museum in Columbus, Ohio.  I tried contacting Motts, but had no success.

Anyone familiar with this story or the vehicle?

According to yorkblog.com, “Before World War II, the York-Hoover Body Co. produced a prototype for a military vehicle that could navigate all types of terrain. The company then successfully completed orders for 69 more vehicles.

But, alas, York-Hoover turned down another order for 4,500 sturdy vehicles because it had pledged its resources elsewhere. Future work on the Jeep, with the York-made design and minor modifications, went to Willys Co. and the Ford Motor Co.”

Louie asked me if I’d be interested in some pictures from the 2010 Redbull Historic Military Club gathering, which included jeeps, seeps and floating trailers. I did not know those Bantam trailers floated so well!

Louie writes, “For a number of years a military collector ( Kevin Kronland of Spooner Wi.) held a 3 day event at his Cranberry farm. He had almost 100 vehicles of his own and our Redbull Historic Military Club would attend with about another 50 to 100 vehicles. Of course we all had a great time showing ,driving,and talking about our vehicles. He had a DUCK, a GPA, and other collectors brought there am fibs to run in his cranberry pond. (A real lake.)

Schwanke Car, Tractor, and Truck Museum Willmar, MN

Located fifty miles west of Minneapolis in Willmar, MN, the Schwanke Car, Tractor, and Truck Museum has been open since 1998.  It features the collection of Virgil Schwanke, who has been  collecting vehicles for fifty-five years. He has assembled over 400 units for display, including tractors, cars, trucks, gas engines, gas pumps, signs and more. He recently added a CJ-2A to the museum.

Virgil uses this CJ-2A as a springboard to talk about jeeps during World War II.  You can read more in the museum’s blog post.

THE STEERING WHEEL TURNS THE FRONT WHEELS ,THE GEAR STICK SEEMS TO OPERATE BUT CANNOT TELL FOR SURE AS THERE IS NO KEY. GREAT RESTORATION PROJECT.”

Eric spotted this unusually modified M-38A1 that used to be a mess. It’s a different kind of slat grille. It might be a fun ride?

“This is not a restored original. See pictures
The only salvageable parts were the chassis, the motor, (rebuilt), the steering wheel, rear ends, transmission, and speedometer.
It is registered as an antique vehicle, and is in good running condition. The mileometer reads 56,349 miles, but I cannot vouch for the accuracy. Approximately 2,000 miles have been put on since the motor was rebuilt.
The motor is an L-head Overland motor.
This is a “one of a kind” vehicle, which you must see to appreciate!!”
