The engine was rebuild with new rod and main bearings, valves reground, new pistons and rings, all new gaskets and seals. The transmission and transfer case were disassembled and necessary parts replaced and new seals and gaskets. Same goes for front and rear axels and drive shafts. In 1996 It won the peoples choice award at the Ga MVPA rally in Helen, Ga. It has always been garaged. I have the original Tenn clear title dated 1980. Ga does not require a title on avehicle this age.”

Tour-de-France Jeeps

• CATEGORIES: News • TAGS: This site contains affiliate links for which I may be compensated.

UPDATE:  This was supposed to be yesterday’s top post.  Well, it still works today.  Besides the below pics, here are some additional pics on Facebook.

Bruce and I exchanged a few emails about Elvis and jeeps.  I’m still not certain how, but after a few searches for Elvis, I found myself  learning more about the Tour-de-France and Jeeps. This was quite a fun search.  Elvis will have to wait until later . . .

This is a restored Tour-de-France jeep that may be an MB.  I found the photo below on Flickr:  http://www.flickr.com/photos/dprezat/3625273265/

I found the photo below on Flickr: http://www.flickr.com/photos/clairemarine/5324818051/

There are many more smaller photos here, including what I believe is an article about the jeep.

Here are some pictures from Life Magazine, that can also be seen at G503.com

Here are some related toys — From Aplimodel.com comes this model:

This website had an older model of bike jeep:

You can buy the below diorama from Amazon.com UK:

And here is a different variation of a diorama that was on eBay UK:

The CJ-3B Page also has an image with four Tour-de-France Jeeps:

Unusual Body, Anyone Recognize it?

• CATEGORIES: Features This site contains affiliate links for which I may be compensated.

Grant is wondering if anyone recognizes this body?  With the tool boxes in the wheel wells, I think it’s got a MB/GPW rear.  It’s got a small part of the driver’s side windshield (just the angle part) which appears mb/gpw/cj2a ish.

This picture was original published at the earlycj5 forum:

“Big Red” in the lobby of Warn Industries

• CATEGORIES: CJ-2A, Features, Museums, Unusual • TAGS: , This site contains affiliate links for which I may be compensated.

Doing some hub research today I ran across images of  “Big Red“, the CJ-2A that lives in the Clackamas, Oregon, facility of Warn Industries.  It’s a beautiful looking jeep that I plan to visit one of these days.

If you haven’t been to the Warn website, stop by the history page and check out the picture of the two odd jeeps taken early in Warn’s history when the shop was located in Seattle.  I contacted Warn about the photos, but they couldn’t provide any additional information about the jeeps.  I’ve never seen the body and frame modifications like those any where else.  It looks like it turned CJ-2As into a truck.

• CATEGORIES: Advertising & Brochures, Features • TAGS: This site contains affiliate links for which I may be compensated.

Here’s an unusual brochure that highlights a variety of jeeps used in the movie Hatari starring John Wayne.

“Original 1962 Jeep advertising brochure based on the film Hatari with John Wayne. The brochure measures 8.5 x 22” when unfolded. It has a series of photos from the Hatari film, including some nice shots of John Wayne. The text describes 4 different Jeep models that are pictured and that were used in the film. It includes lines like “What a combination: rugged John Wayne and powerful Jeep vehicles.” This 50 year old Jeep brochure has the original address label on it but is still in excellent condition.”

Here are other images from the sale of a Hatari brochure in October of 2019:
