Importantly, the allure of buying a project jeep can be romantic. The reality of restoring a jeep can be quite different, expensive and overwhelming without the right tools and resources. “This jeep is in good original condition. Just hit 40,000 miles. Jeep is close to being 100% original. Replaced batteries and motor was rebuilt less than 300 miles ago. Runs and drives great. Would make the perfect candidate if you wanted to do a frame off restoration there is no rust in the vehicle or frame. You could keep the vehicle just like it is and enjoy its originality. ”

“I have a mix of extra parts that came with a 1955 M38a1 Willys Military Jeep I am restoring including used Fenders, Dash, rear seat cushions, drive lines, windshield gasket, radiator, aftermarket light bar, roll bar, and a number of smaller parts that could be used or sold piecemeal for more.
Fenders and dash have been media blasted clean. Fenders have some body damage, dash has a radio cut out spot, mostly 1950s era parts not new. (The rear seat in the first two pictures has sold)
I get to Boise weekly usually and could also meet up that way.

Possible restoration candidate.
“1953 Willys M38A1. All machine work complete on the engine. Bored .60 over, crank turned 20/20. New water pump, thermostat housing, and gasket set. Radiator has been redone. All the parts are with the Jeep. I pulled this out of Atoka Oklahoma, it belonged to a Korean War Veteran. He had started the restoration by tearing down the engine and then lost his sight. No title, but I can acquire one through court order for 475.00 black tagged. Not running will need final assembly.”

“1953 Willy’s M38A1 1/4 Ton 4 x 4 Jeep. Serial # 44613. Mileage reads 38,117. Powered by the original Hurricane 4 cylinder F-Head gas engine. 3 speed manual transmission, 2 speed transfer case and 2 or 4 wheel drive. This M38A1 starts very easily and runs, drives and stops good. The body is in good solid shape with some imperfections (see photos). All lights, gauges and turn signals work. Overall this is a nice old Army Jeep.”

“’53 Korean War vintage M38A1 Willy’s Jeep. Overall in good shape but presently not running. Was running great when I purchased it two years ago for a restoration project, but it has been sitting in the garage since then. I’m sure batteries will need replacing, oil pan gaskets leaks and carb will need cleaning. Everything else looked solid when I bought it. Tires are like new. Canvas top & seats are awesome. Body is solid. Even have side doors and flaps. Hurricane engine only has 22,700 miles. Also has a heater (not installed). Great start for project military Jeep. Selling for $5,200 while it’s not running. Once I take to my mechanic and get it running price will go up to $6,200. ”
