Merlin from Hanson Mechanical wrote a fun article about the original Banana Republic Stores and their jeeps. I had forgotten all about them.

Below are a couple of images from old ads I found here.
With acres of parts, it sounds like Howbill’s might have been a great place to explore.
“Matchbook cover, has striker, no matches. light wear, nice condition.”
Here’s another QSL card with a jeep. The Blue’s refers to the blue mountains which are just over an hour south of us in Oregon.
“QSL HAM RADIO CARD: About the same size as a Standard size postcard (about 3 1/4″ x 5 3/8″), but on slightly lighter weight paper. Our inventory number: QSL 4 ”
This ad shows a CJ-2A with what I think is a trailered foam system. Or, am I wrong?
I don’t completely understand what these are, but it looks interesting.
“India JEEP Automobile Transport Match Box Packet Label. Large Size – 2.00″ X 2.25”
Here’s another of these foldout brochures.
“You are bidding on a Hard to Find 1947 Jeep Willys-Overland America’s Most Versatile Farm Tool Foldout Brochure it is a 4 page brochure, when folded it is a 9×14. Brown and white cover, with green and brown lettering, has photograph showing three-quarter rear view of Jeep Universal CJ-2A being used to till farm, with discussion. Folder opens to 17×28 layout with twenty photographs showing ways that a Jeep Universal can be used in the production of agricultural products, with discussion and list of equipment which can be used with a Jeep. Reverse side has three photographs show hydraulic lift attachments and 9-point labeled photo rendering of chassis, with discussion and technical data for farm equipment.”
This is interesting.
