Importantly, the allure of buying a project jeep can be romantic. The reality of restoring a jeep can be quite different, expensive and overwhelming without the right tools and resources. “This is a pretty decent old Jeep, which I bought to fix up but now need to move due to other projects. I bought it from a man who was selling off his grandfather’s ranch vehicles – he therefore couldn’t tell me anything about it, but it appears that the Jeep received quite a bit of attention from someone about 30 years ago, when the last plates expired: the motor appears to have been rebuilt, new wiring installed, the drivers seat recovered, etc. Again, that was 30 years ago, but the motor (if it was rebuilt) makes this Jeep worth it alone. It runs very smoothly and burns no oil, which backs up appearances. I have tried to get it adjusted to run well but it could still use a little fine-tuning, carb-wise.
The drivetrain sounds good (no ugly bearing/gear noise). The tires all match, have lots of tread, good tubes in them, but they are weather-checked. I do have a set of mounted new tires for $500 if the buyer wants them. The body is rusty in places but complete and not a basket-case. There is no top, but my friend has a vintage aluminum, wool-insulated top that fits this Jeep that he’d sell cheap. The battery is new, and the charging system works great. The engine keeps cool and has good oil pressure and, dare I say, no leaks. This Jeep has the rare and expensive factory PTO which is hooked up to a winch, which is probably junk – I have not tried to get it working.
Last winter I got the master cylinder to hold pressure and then gave up on the brakes without really trying, so it needs brakes. Other than that, it needs the lights wired up, and it should be ready to go. That’s about all I can say since I haven’t really driven it around. Prospective buyers can drive it around my block and into the parking lot next door to feel it out.”

“This is an M38 body tub with 1946 Willys frame, hood, grill, flat-fenders, windshield and tailgate. 231 Buick V6 motor. Custom 2 into 1 exhaust (quiet). T-90 Transmission with Warn Overdrive conversion. Power steering. Heavy Duty 3 finger clutch. Electric radiator fan(so you can shut it off when you get in deep water). Heater, with fan for passenger side and driver side. Early 70s Dana 44 offset rear Axle(rebuilt 2 years ago), Late 70s Dana 30 offset front Axle (rebuilt last winter) with Warn Premium manual locking hubs and heavy duty U-Joints, both axles are locked with 5.38 gears. 11 inch drum brakes all around. Custom heavy duty Drive Shafts. Super Swamper 34 inch LTB tires. Front shackle reversal. Rancho 2.5 inch lift Flex springs with double wrap main spring. Heavy duty tie rods. Early 80s Desert Dynamics 8000 lb winch. 48 inch Hi-Jack, mounted on inside. Custom radiator. Custom Seats.
Its registered in ME as an antique auto, runs great, pretty much goes any where you want to go, it will climb anything. Ive got lots of extras lying around; soft top, spare axles, brake parts (including disc brake conversion for front), grill, drive shafts, back seat, etc. I have put more than $6000 in this jeep in the last three years with its most recent rebuild. My local jeep mechanic that’s known of the vehicle since its original rebuild 28 years ago says that its worth all of $5000, if not more. motivated to sell and let it go to the next fun seaking off roader.”

(03/14/2013) “Project Jeep. It is a 1947 Willys CJ-2A. It was a total basket case, but I have it nearly ready to complete. Engine swap by previous owner to 225CI Slant Six. I have a newer Slant Six (Super-Six) out of 70’s Valare. Only 30,000 miles. Most of tub has been rebuilt. All steel, no bondo. I was building it for my father who has passed away. I no longer am interested in completing it. Finsih it the way you want. Good engine, new windshield. I can even deliver if you buy the gas. Give me a call (509)876-2354. Thanks for looking”
