Importantly, the allure of buying a project jeep can be romantic. The reality of restoring a jeep can be quite different, expensive and overwhelming without the right tools and resources. Marc spotted this jeep. It has a good story.
“I’ve had this great running little jeep for several years. I’m thinking I may want to pursue a different hobby so it may be time for my Jeep to move to a new home. I purchased this from a friend of mine (WWII aircraft mechanic) that used it at Centennial Airport to pull vintage airplanes around the hanger. The reported history is it was originally purchased by the US Navy in Hawaii and used as a shore patrol or similar right after the war. Although there were many Army jeeps in the area, the Navy purchased a few right after the war directly from local dealers (sounds like a mini-stimulus program). I verified this info from a WWII Jeep forum on the web called G503.com. In any event, the story goes it was in military service for a few months but then was surplused and ended up in New Mexico. There are brass plaques attached that reference 1946 dates of service. It spent the 50s-70s or so there until it was purchased by a local, well known construction company CEO. It ended up at Centennial Airport here in Colorado and WWII veteran guys and that is where I found it. Long story short (well, kind of short), I ended up with it. I have used it to run into town, pick up kids from school, parades, and even taken it from the bottom to the top of Trail Ridge Road in Rocky Mountain National Park and even on the highest paved road in America. Although she was breathing heavy at the top, she made it without missing a beat. The bottom line is this little guy never left me stranded even during high-altitude testing! It’s been kept inside for at least the last 20 years and hasn’t seen off road use.

The body doesn’t look complete. It looks like the steps and the bow holders are missing.
“This is a complete jeep willys body has all been gone through fixing all the rust just needs touching up. Comes with clean title. Has a Chevy 4.3 that had a advance adaptor going to a jeep t14 tranny and Dana 20 transfer case. Does not run motor is loose and free. I changed the wheels to a almost new 31″ tires with chrome steel wheels. It had a BRAND NEW lift kit the axles also have perches on top and bottom so can be under or spring over axle. (09/09/2012) “Ok this Jeep is a fixer upper;1948 Willys Jeep very cute but need to be restored? Yes all the parts are here in the back of it. Asking $1200.00 or obo? We have a clean title. The vin# is CJ2A202715 plus it has 4 chrome wheels and tires. All these things are here. Fenders, windshield deck, engine v6, 3speed standard transmission, transfer case bell housing. All you have to do is rebuild it all and put it back together.”

For sale is a Willys-Overland 1947 CJ2A fully restored frame up, with original L-134 flat head motor. Engine serial #J98994, frame serial #96785. Tub is a repli-tub purchased direct from willys=Overland, but we have the original tub serial #CJ-2a 96785 data plate that goes with the vehicle to the new owner.
Restoration completed 2000-2001 by experienced vintage car restorer, and it has been garaged indoors ever since. Has only been driven for about 400 miles since the restoration. Painted pasture green to match original paint. New canvas on seats. No top bows. Converted to 12v system, with original rebuilt starter still in operation. Have the original 6v parts if someone wants to convert back. Also have 2 spare carbs and misc parts.
This Willys is very solid and sound, there are no problems mechanically or otherwise. Ready to drive, parade, park, hunt, or whatever. Starts right up without any hesitation every time. Selctro hubs. 4 wheel drive works smooth and easy.
This vehicle will go anywhere, climb anything, and do just about anything! Speedometer works, but probably needs a little calibrating. Gas gauge works sometimes, well, most of the time, but there is an alternate gas gauge included in the sale (24″ wooden dip stick, never lies and doesnt need calibrating).
Tires are new NDT 700-15 (non-direction tread) purchased from Coker Tire with about 400 miles of use, plus matching rubber for spare tire (no rim).
All major parts are original, the grill, hood, fenders, and windshield (new glass and seals) are all original and completely restored.
Currently licensed in OR with Oregon Antique Vehicle plates. Frame, and serial number data plate match.”
