Importantly, the allure of buying a project jeep can be romantic. The reality of restoring a jeep can be quite different, expensive and overwhelming without the right tools and resources. (08/30/2010) Here’s an unusual CJ.
“1946 WIllys CJ2A Jeep custom built. Chev V8, power steering, Rancho suspension, lockers, 5.38 gears, electric overdrive, 33″ new mud terrains, Warn 8,000 lb. winch, custom SS dash with full guages, heater, CB radio, AM/FM stero, Cooper removable top, half doors, and much more! This Jeep is for the serious Jeep builder and off roader only.”
Brett spotted this one. I like it. Fortunately, he wants to sell it to serious restorers.
“This is what’s known as a VEC (very early civilian) CJ2A vin 21766 and has many unique characteristics. It is column shift, has the tool indents in the side panel, and five solid rims. This is an extremely nice, very original example that was sitting in a storage container in the Nevada desert for years. Very straight, nearly rust-free body, original keyed coil, door sockets (and door frames), gauges, wheels, etc. Mileage shows 81,079. It would be considered a project vehicle as I never tried to get it running, but appears a relatively simple restoration. It rolls very easily, steering is tight, and I’d bet with a battery, gas, and TLC it would fire up. It’s missing a couple things and needs some repair, but is remarkable for a 65 year old vehicle. The previous owner began a “restoration” and painted the windshield frame and hood but they should be re-done correctly. Selling to put time and money into an earlier 2A recently acquired. “1947 cj2a jeep. Has been upgraded with 1977 Chevy V8 small block 305 engine
the engine is a ’77 chevy small block with an eddlebrock carb. new distributor and intake gasket, new sparks, rebuilt trans. all within the last 3 months. it runs and performs really well off-road. i am looking to get a dual sport motor cycle so i can ride with my 8 year old son who just got a dirt bike otherwise i would not be selling it. =)”

This appears pretty stock.
“1948 Jeep Willys CJ 2A. Excellent runner. 6V system, 3sp. manual transmission. 4 X 4 works well in high and low. Good tires and spare. Headlights work good, tail lights and signals work intermittently. Body has some rust but is in overall good condition. Seats have covers on them but need to be redone to be perfect. Speedometer works well and shows 36,xxx miles. All other gages work well. Brakes work well but need to add fluid from time to time. Has vacum windshield wiper that does work but windshield has crack. No warranty expressed or implied. Being sold as-is. 319-212-zero seven seven four”

The seller indicates the back fenders are rough.
“4×4 works good, 3 speed, 4×4 high and low, in and out, lock out hubs, body is pretty straight, the back fenders could be replaced or put some puddy on them just the back corners. The frame is solid no rust, tires all hold are and have some tread. be a great jeep to play in, for the farm, or to restore, i would be willing to trade for a hot rod, 4 wheeler, or another 4×4. call 785 418 0595 dont check email so call.”

This looks pretty solid. Comes with extra engine. Transfercase needs work.
“THIS JEEP HAS NEW TIGER STRIPE PAINT, WIRING HARNESS, BEEN CONVERTED TO 12 VOLT SYSTEM, NEW LIGHTS, NEWER TIRES, ALL GAUGES REPLACED, AND THE TUB HAS BEEN BEDLINED. IT STILL NEEDS A LITTLE WORK. THE GUY THAT OWNED IT BEFORE ME SAID THE FLATHEAD WAS BLOWN SO HE DROPPED IN A 4 CYLINDER MOTOR AND PUT IN A HYDRAULIC CLUTCH. THE LINKAGE ON THE CLUTCH BROKE AND AS I WAS GOING TO PUT A FLATHEAD BACK INTO IT, I BOUGHT ALL NEW LIKAGE PARTS BUT FOR THE FLATHEAD. I DO HAVE A FLATHEAD FOR IT BUT HAVE NOT DROPPED IT IN YET. ALSO, THE TRANSFER CASE NEED REPLACING. MY WIFE SAID IT’S TIME TO GET IT OUT OF THE GARAGE SO MY LOSS IS YOUR GAIN. FUN LITTLE DRIVING UNIT.L”
It’s got a nice rack, a full cage and a variety of updates. It might not be a bad price.
