A good deal of work looks like it has been done on this.

“All original steel body, 4 yr old paint, Custom Crawler Cage and boxed frame, 2 1/2″ Rancho springs, Confer shackles, new hangers and poly bushings, rebuilt Dana 25 front with 5:38 gears, Spicer axles, Superwinch hubs, 11X2 drums, Saginaw steering kit box + mount, have complete Dana 44 rear with new 5:38 ring and pinion set (has Dana 41 in it now), New Process 435 4 spd with AA kit and Dana 18 case (all rebuilt), new 31 X 11.5 Super Swamper LTB on 15X10 chrome mods, Ford V8 motor mounts, 229 Chevy V6 builder goes with sale, have lots of new, original and repo parts, catalogs and receipts for all parts and professional work done. UPDATE: **SOLD** Was $5000.

I’m thinking this might be a M-38?  I think I see tool indents on the passenger side.  Those tires are pretty worn.

UPDATE:  Last priced at $9500.

The Jeep looks nice enough, but let me remind potential buyers that 1. VE day was in May of 1945 and VJ day was in August of 1945; 2. 1948 comes after 1945 (umm .. this is self-evident, yes?); and 3., by the transitive mathematical property, this jeep, contrary to the seller’s claim, could not have played a role in WWII because it ended in 1945 and the jeep was produced in 1948.

UPDATE: Kevin from the UK wrote me today to say that he spotted the same CJ-2A Kevin saw while on vacation on Maui in 2002.  Too funny!  He also took a picture and provided it for our viewing pleasure.  Thanks Kevin!

Steve was visiting Hawaii a few years ago and spotted this VEC CJ-2A on the island of Maui in Hawaii.  There can’t be too many of these on the island!

Brett found another interesting deal in Utah.  The seller labels this a 1952, but it looks like a VEC CJ-2A to me.  It looks like it was also a column shift at some point.

This needs some work, but looks pretty good.  It also looks like it has been stretched a bit in the front of the body and the front axles looks forward a bit too, suggesting this isn’t a standard frame.  Maybe it’s a truck or CJ-7 frame?

“This would be a great hunting and/or trail rig. It has a chevy 4.3 v6, power steering, duel exhaust, 31×10.50 mud tires with 95% tread, trailer hitch, 3 speed manual trans, and 2 stick transfer case. This Jeep has been put up for several years and could use some work. Here’s what I know it needs: The front diff needs new spider gears ($100.00 from 4wd.com), could use the right rear brake drum replaced, and needs a tune-up. The broken spider gears were removed and the axel was cleaned and refilled with oil, so it does drive. (318) 355-5223 if interested.

The engine is in the back, but this thing looks in good shape.  It looks like a deal.

“CJ2 jeep 1946, this is a builder the engine is in the back, see photo. I think the engine has been rebuilt. I took off the valve or tappet cover and it is clean inside. The outside of the block is also clean.”
