Importantly, the allure of buying a project jeep can be romantic. The reality of restoring a jeep can be quite different, expensive and overwhelming without the right tools and resources. ” I have a Very nice complete 1949 Willys Jeep, Model CJ3A, Serial Number 23859 in Excellent Complete Condition. Look at the beautiful Koenig hard top and the patina is killer. Everything is just surface rust, here in Colorado that’s about all the farther it goes. 42, 949 miles on the odometer. We were driving this jeep 6 years ago around the farm, and from sitting the engine will not turn. I just poured some sea-foam in the spark plug holes, hopefully it will free up easily. Other than that and needing seats, this is the most original and complete jeep I have ever owned. The engine compartment is complete, underneath is complete, transmission shifts fine, somehow the engine just stuck from sitting. Look at the dash, so nice and un-molested, still has the dash tag. Slight rust inside the trap door compartment, otherwise very very nice tub. Straight hood, nice tailgate. The driver door window has come off the track, but is not cracked and should be easy to fix. Has a key and clear Colorado title, needs a 6 volt battery. Has a tow bar on the front, gas can holder on the side. Look at the coolest side mirror ever.”

“For sale is a 1950 willys cj-3a. Flat head 4 cyl rebuilt about ten years ago with very few miles since. Good tires and mechanically sound overall. Comes with a 7 1/2′ meyers plow. Price is negotiable.”

It has a 350 chevy engine, long tube headers,mild cam, holley 750 carb, Mallory electronic ignition, turbo 400 automatic transmission, Dane 44 in back and a Dana 30 up front. Full roll cage. Estimated horsepower is 360. It was a sand dune racer from southern California. Would make a bad ass ice racer here in Colorado. Comes with 3 tops, a cover and a bunch of extra pieces/parts. Cash only please. Vin verification is done. Price is negotiable.”

Well, it’s the first year they put the hurricane in the CJ-3B, but not in the CJ-3A.

“1951 Willys Jeep CJ3A Nuts and bolts restoration. New tub, rebuilt engine and trans. OD paint and military markings. Military NDT tires. Mock up .50 cal machine gun can be displayed ala Rat Patrol. $15K in materials put into it. That said, I will have to take a loss, I understand that. Make a reasonable offer.”
James has been busy attending the College of Mines in Golden, Colorado. But, he had time to drop us a note. He writes, “I saw this Gem today. I was on my way back home from school while this drove past me. It’s a 1950 Willys CJ3A with an overdrive unit just like my old 3a. It is in amazing condition and runs like a champ. It’s good to see it still on the roads in Golden. For a moment I thought it was my old 3A! ”
