Importantly, the allure of buying a project jeep can be romantic. The reality of restoring a jeep can be quite different, expensive and overwhelming without the right tools and resources. “98K original miles, 6 volt, all stock and original, new engine (it purrs) with maybe 5K on it, rebuilt transmission, rebuilt brakes, fresh upholstery on the original seats, a few dents and dings. Its turn key, needs nothing, starts, runs and drives excellent for a near 60 year old Jeep. Built to look like it just rolled off the battlefield in WWII, extended bed, Flat military green paint,loaded with ammo boxes, vintage tools, military surplus stuff, canvas etc.”

The jeep is interesting too. The drive train has been modernized and the jeep outfitted with a modern cage. The engine probably has some extra spunk for a v-6, but bored 60 over suggests that it might not have a ton of life left.
“1953, Complete running gear out of 1968 Jeepster Commando, 3:73 gears, model 27 up front has a 44 in the back, model 18 transfer case,turbo 400 with shift kit, 225 V6 punched over 40 headers and turbo mufflers, aluminum high rise with 4 barrel carb, saginaw power steering, 2 inch lift kit, we have a few spare parts that go with it. Hasn’t been started in three or for years. missing coil and ballast resister. Has a nice full cage. Front and rear seats out of CJ-7”
“I am selling a 1953 Willys CJ3B. This is a rare hi hood flatfender. This jeep is curently regestered and driven all the time.It runs great. It has F head engine and 3 speed tranny,everything works good.I am asking $3500.00 obo.I do not need to sale this jeep so no low ballers.”

“1954 Jeep Willys 3b project. This Jeep would make a perfect project or with a little work make the pefect Hunters Jeep. It has the High hood, Buick V6 motor and a PTO winch. It has been sitting for a few years and at this time does not run. If you have any questions give me a call and I will answer them the best I can.”
This CJ-3B has about 23,000 miles on it. The body looks in good shape, though the new paint job could possibly be hiding dings and rust. The rims are interesting — I'm not sure if those are newer or old rims. Kimberly is 2 hours southeast of Boise.
"This is willy. a 1953 Willys CJ 3B 4cyl Jeep 4×4 in nice condition. This is a very fun Jeep to drive in the summer! It has been recently re-painted in a blue to purple coat/clear coat. New Bikini top & doors, new (USED) seats. All new Diamond plate was installed. A very solid Jeep overall. Runs great with no mechanical issues. Has a very nice set of tires wrapped around a new set of rims. The tires have lots of tread life left. Pardon the mud! See the pictures!"

Brian sent me some updated pictures of his CJ-3B project. He just finished reversing the springs in the front. As a part of that reversal, he had to replace the front of the frame. After conquering this task, he turned his attention to the rear differential, only to discover a big problem (which he'll update all of us about as he progresses through the issue).
Brian explains more below about his spring reversal experience below ….
"I wanted to do a spring reversal so I started by getting some universal after market parts to make things a little easier. Then I bought a early Cj5 frame for the front 8 inches then sold off a chrome bumper and ring and pinion at a small profit.
Here's what I did to lengthen the frame.
I cut a block to use as an template to cut off the front of the 3b frame. (Stan H. — from the Wandering Willys Jeep Club — always said to cut at a 45 degree angle though the frame.) I did the same with the pieces to be added. They lined up really nice.
“I bought this cj3b last fall with the intent to make a rock crawler but lost interest. This is a rare high hood model that was only avaible for a few years. Here is what I know or have been told about it. The engine is a Buick 225 v6, T14 3spd tranny, Warn overdrive with a stacked PTO, Dana 44 rear, Dana 27 front and 4:88 gears, all from a 1970s Cj5. There is a pto winch on it that does work! The Jeep runs and drives great, but it does need some work on the brakes, (pulls to the right while braking).”
This CJ-3B appears meticulously restored.
"Willys 1953 CJ3B restored, all new metal and paint, everything else mechanical new or rebuilt, transferred to 12 volt, new soft top, new looking original stickers and markings, engine & dashboard are new, orig seats reupholstered 599 miles since rebuild"
Obviously, these aren't available every day, especially with less than 5k miles. A great collector piece!
"1961 Willys jeep, 4270 original mileage ( no misprint) original 4cylinder engine, 4 wheel drive; 3 speed manual transmission; 5 ton front -pto driven winch ( original equipment) very good tires; 160 gallon water tank that is easily removable; siren and lights.Maintainance records will be provided. This Willys can be put back into original state easiliy. Always garaged; This vehicle was used as a brush fire vehicle by fire department. Buyer will receive extra rear axle and original tire and rim. must sell as per Federal Grant requirements."
Even though the picture isn't great, it's easy to tell this CJ-3B is likely in great shape.
"There no room to list all that this has on it. You really should see it to beleive what it has. I can send photo to the person who has placed a bid. I also have a matching off road cargo trailer that looks great with the 3B. The motor is a 350ci Chevy with only 1000 miles on it. Lots and lots of chrome, just to much to list here. "
UPDATE: This CJ-3B is back on ebay (last time was mid may). Starting bid is now $2200.
The beginning bid price is $2500, which is a bit high for a non running jeep. The rims and tires look new and in good shape. Westfall Oregon is in the middle of eastern Oregon, a ways off either highway 20 or 26.
"For sale is a 1954 Willys CJ-3B, "High Hood". This is the jeep Willys replaced the CJ-3A with, by adding the new overhead engine. Being a taller engine, it needed more room, so, Willys raised the hood. I bought this Willys from a man who was driving it back and forth to work. He had started to restore the jeep, (pulled the radiator, front clip, started some body work…) then he ran out of time, and sold it to me. It is not running at this time….."
