Importantly, the allure of buying a project jeep can be romantic. The reality of restoring a jeep can be quite different, expensive and overwhelming without the right tools and resources. Joe is selling his Navy themed CJ-3B. When he got it, it had the words “For official use only” faintly visible on the hood and the original color appeared to be semi-gloss grey. So, it may well have been a Navy jeep.
“Road ready 1953 CJ3B US NAVY JEEP. Starts right up. Runs drives and stops as it should. Everything works. Clear Tennessee title in my name. Drives great. Used as my errand/ short excursion jeep for several years. Complete build diary and invoices. Currently equipped with Cooper Cross Country 700/16 NDT military tires. Spare included, not pictured. “This is a cool rig! It was built over the years by an engineer machinist creative old fella! It has a Ford Flathead V-8! Yup, you read right. It has power steering, an actuated grille with Louvers, a split tail gate, and body exit exhaust etc. lots of ingenuity. It runs and has a title though it’s been parked a bit. Hasn’t been driven in a year or so. It has title also!”

The dash tags suggest this was an old club vehicle and/or possible racer. The engine may well be worth a look, as it may have been reworked for some additional power.

“This is a 1953 Jeep cj3b that my dad bought in 1961. It has been garaged all the time only driven in the summer and put up on blocks in the winter. There is no rust on the body or frame. A Warn overdrive has been added and Warn hubs. The seats have been reupulstered with new fabric and foam. The top is in good condition and nearly new. It has been converted to 12volt and the spare tire moved to the rear. The original tire mount and 6 volt parts go with it.”
