This looks like a very nice CJ-6.
“One of a kind Jeep CJ-6 with complete frame off restoration. The Jeep runs and drives great and has approximately 800 miles since restoration. The Jeep has never been driven on a wet road and has been garaged since resto. I have many spare parts that go with this jeep like: original generator, leaf springs, spare engine (not overhauled), spare seat frames, carb., fuel pump, 2 heaters many speacialized jeep screws and nuts. This Jeep had 24,500 miles prior to restoration and now has 800 miles on a 1964 Hurricane engine. This engine was already overhauled and cost me the same as the overhaul for my engine so I kept the original as a spare, it turns over and ran prior to removal. The jeep has been convereted from 6 volt to 12 volt with the installation of an alternator, it has no scratches dings, dents or rust anywhere it is in perfect restored condition. I also have the complete door frames with original fabric and the frame for the top (top bow), none of the canvas items have been restored. Best tops have a top that fits for approx. $750.00 This Jeep is equipped with a PTO front winch and the front windshield is the opening vented type with the curved sides which is extremely rare. Every item on this jeep was overhauled from the blinker switch to the entire brake system and drive train. Please call or email me with questions on the restoration, history of the Jeep or additional restoration photos, I have lots of pictures of everything.”
UPDATE: **SOLD** Was on eBay
It’s rough, but runs.
” You are bidding on a 1966 Jeep Willys. It was originally bought as a project vehicle, but I just don’t have the time right now for something like this. I hate to sell it because it could be really cool if fixed up.
Id# 840528695
Original 52,000 mi
4 speed with granny gear 4×4
Starts right up summer and winter; this truck is a champ. This truck was a special order #D-3823 This is a all original. Willys are hard to find and a restore would make this truck one of the best for its rareness”
Mark reports that the recent edition of Hot Rod Deluxe Magazine has a variety of jeep pictures in it. Here are a couple. I have yet to pick up my copy.
Mark writes, “Found this cool copy of Hot Rod Deluxe magazine – May 2012 edition while in Barnes and Noble the other day. This nice little gem features a ton of Willys cars, trucks and quite a few Willys Jeeps as well. See pics attached. Page 6 features the first Four Wheel Drive Grand Prix in 1965 with allot of Jeeps in the pic. Page 33 features Bob Panella’s huge collection of Willys cars and trucks. Scattered throughout the rest of the pages you will find race jeeps and tricked out jeeps from back in the day which are pretty cool.”
This looks in good shape and has a Warn Overdrive.

UPDATE: Was $5500. **SOLD**
“31k original miles
Original F head 4 cylinder engine, with maybe 5 hours of use since rebuilt professionally. (Rebuit this year.) My mechanic went through the whole thing from front to back, top to bottom.
New hoses, fuel lines, gauges, battery, cables, professionally rebuilt carburetor and clutch kit.
I purchased this jeep from Southern Missouri intending to use it on my farm, but it takes up too much room in my garage and I just don’t use it like I thought I would. When I bought it, it hadn’t run in years, but the body and frame were unbelievably clean. It had been used on a large hunting ranch by a hunting club until it stopped running. They said it hasn’t been on a road for at least 30 years. Thus the clean condition underneath.
It was painted the camouflage many years ago, but the original Indian Ceramic (orange) is still pretty shiny where they didn’t paint or where the green has peeled off. Because it was used in the woods a lot, there are plenty of dings in the fenders, etc. It does have a decent homemade roll bar. (I read that there were no stock roll bars made for these.)
Another rarity is the steel hard top. I was told that it is worth $1200 alone, in any condition. It includes steel doors in decent condition and a lift gate. (Lift gate window is missing and latch doesn’t function properly, but looks easily fixable.) The top and doors are included with the sale.
It has the stock triple stick manual transmission: one is the 3 speed + reverse, next is 2 or 4WD, last is high – low range. And the low range is VERY low on this thing. I have been told that because of the low gearing, CJ-6’s are highly sought after as rock crawlers.
Well, I’m way over budget. So my loss can be your gain. I’ve spent almost $8000 on this since last year, primarily on mechanical refurbishing.”
This is a project or parts jeep.

James and Tish run Red River Offroad Tours in New Mexico. You might remember the post I did about their CJ-6s here. They are now on Facebook, too.
James emailed me recently about his recently completed Recovery CJ-6. The CJ6 is set up to be used as a ATV/UTV/Jeep Recovery vehicle in the mountains of Red River and Taos, New Mexico.
It’s a 1973 CJ-6 with a stock 304 3-speed and a D20 with Terra Low. It has a 4’lift 35’s. The bed winch is a Ramsey 10,000 pounder. On the bumper is a Smitty Built 10,000# winch mounted on the ARB bumper.
The seller lists this as a CJ-5.
