Importantly, the allure of buying a project jeep can be romantic. The reality of restoring a jeep can be quite different, expensive and overwhelming without the right tools and resources. It only gets 11 MPG? That seems a little low to me.
“Selling my mail jeep. It runs and gets 11 miles to the gallon, has a rca sound system. Its a right hand drive. Comes with a full set of chains. Needs some work though. Asking $2000 for it.”

Not perfect, but runs and drives.
“1974 Am General Jeep DJ-5 RHD. Rear wheel 2WD with automatic, 232 CID in line 6 cyl. Fully Functional and ready for mail route. Odometer functions and shows a little less than 73K, but being 40 years old I have no idea if that is correct. Tires very good, brakes and steering recently adjusted. Just installed new radiator and wiper blades 3 weeks ago and new Duralast Gold battery 4 weeks ago. I purchased this in January of this year to use on a rural mail route as a part-time carrier, and used it several times on the route, but was just hired as a full time driver for Fedex, so I no longer need it.
Previous owner replaced many parts and I have his service/parts records as well as my own. Cosmetically, it’s not by any means perfect, but it’s not a certified clunker, either. I have not had it tested for emissions so I have no idea whether it will pass or not. It does run and drive good and I have a clean title.”

UPDATE: Seller scrapped much of the jeep, but retained the grille. If you need a DJ grille, contact Brett below in the comments.
This is a left-handed DJ rather than a right-handed one.
“Rare 73 mail jeep with sliding doors. This one is left hand drive making it even more rare. 2wd automatic with straight 6 engine. $400 obo or will part out.”

“Selling my dj5 ice cream truck. It’s super fun to drive and gets a lot of looks. Still has the pa speaker and ice cream music. It only has 112,xxx miles and runs good. Interior has one seat, and plenty of room to add seats or put for a cooler for ice cream. Has an air trumpet horn, and a high amp battery. Could use new brakes and new gaskets on door seal, and heater needs fixed. It is right hand drive and takes a little to get used to but definitely is fun.”

“Looking to get rid of my mail Jeep this weekend! Time to get a new project for me (dirtbike or motorcycle) The Jeep is rusty but the motor runs and the trans shifts fine. I have owned the jeep for the past 4 years and it is plated Historical! Looking to make some more room in the garage.”

It runs and drives. It needs some brake work.
“I have a decent 1977 Jeep DJ-5 (Mail Jeep) for sale. It has a 232 cid I-6 engine and automatic transmission. This vehicle is right hand steer. No power brakes or steering. It does leak from the roof and the brakes need to be looked at. It does run and drive rather nicely for an old Jeep. Tags are current and title is clean.
