John forwarded this photograph from the March 2012 issue of Driven Magazine that shows John Wayne arriving to the Hollywood premiere of his movie Hatari in a striped CJ-5. There were a few FCs in the Hatari movie, too.

I looked up the artist’s name, Pettinato, but couldn’t find anything else by him/her. The body style seemed like a Ford Pygmy to me.

UPDATE: **SOLD** Was $350.
Philip forwarded this. I’m try to get my brain around this, but I can’t quite picture a trencher here.
“Willeys jeep trencher. Seems to all be there. $350.00”
These photographs were taken by Ron Day, who wrote articles about the races and has hundreds of additional photos. I’ve contacted him, thanked him for publishing the photos, and asked if he had any additional information he could share. Ron now lives in Alaska and continues to photograph. You can see his website here: http://rondayvous.com/

Not all the vehicles were modified. Many 1970s racers were trail jeeps with winches and tow bars still attached, such as this drag racer.

Bill from Lime Street Carriage Works was enjoying himself today, lining up some jeeps and photographing them. You’ll note the FC-170 he scored recently.
Craig managed to snag some vintage concept Commuter FC photos off of eBay recently. He’s organized and posted them at http://thefcconnection.com/the_commuter.htm along with a brief history. The quality of these photos are excellent and could provide clues to recreating one of these, should someone have the money, time, and energy to tackle the project. The whereabouts of the three concept vehicles produced are unclear.
Here’s an image of one of prototype #2:
