1942 GPW Franktown, CO **SOLD**

UPDATE: **SOLD** $6000 on eBay

This runs, but needs some work and isn’t entirely stock.

“This is an April 1942 Ford script GPW jeep. This is a good vehicle to enjoy as is, for reenactors, or do a Restoration on. I bought it as I just wanted something to drive instead of rip apart and never be able to finish. Makes a good combat class looking vehicle. The engine is out of a 1949 CJ 2. The transmission is still the original t84 and bell housing when I looked underneath still has a big ford script. The data plates are the original data plates delivered April 1942. The frame number matches the data plates. This has a clear clean Colorado title. The Jeep has been converted to 12 V charging system. All the gauges except fuel gauge work, even speedometer works. Included with the auction Ari set of original gauges that just have not been put in yet. Read more on eBay.”

1942 GPW Newport Beach, CA **SOLD**

• CATEGORIES: GPW (Ford MB) This site contains affiliate links for which I may be compensated.

UPDATE: **SOLD** Was eBay.

The engine runs.

“This is a rare Ford GPW script Jeep that has been here in California since going into active service in 1942. After stripping the paint off of the body I was pleasantly surprised to find an extremely straight and almost rust free body. The fuel well was rusted and will need to be replaced and a new fuel tank should be purchased also. The engine runs well with 40 pounds of pressure at idle while cold. It drives and shifts well but the brakes are dragging and will need to be gone through. Someone has cut a small area on the passenger side body as can be seen in the pictures, a steel plate was welded in place. Why that was done is a mystery, there’s no evidence of damage, just that this small area was cut out. Since stripping the paint off a few months ago there is minor surface rust which has formed on the bare metal that can easily be taken off. I had originally thought about doing a complete body off restoration. I decided to keep the minor ding on the leading edge of the front drivers side fender to keep some character showing that it had been there and done it some where many years ago. One thing is for sure that with a minimal amount of work and cost this rare WWII survivor could be back on the road in short order. I don’t know where or if it would be possible to find a better unrestored example of an early Ford GPW Jeep. I have a clear California title. The original ID tags have gone missing so assume that new ones will have to be affixed to the Jeep.”

UPDATE: **SOLD** Was $2000

The seller calls this a CJ-2A, but I think this is more likely a GPW chassis.

“This 1945 CJ2A Willys Jeep frame/chassis is a complete running gear less engine. It comes with a Title and ID # CPW271063. As you can see in the pics, it has a tow bar for easy transport. Come on by and take look. I’m in the heart of old downtown Glendale.”

UPDATE: **SOLD** Was on eBay.

This is a nice looking build.

“This Jeep is a piece of World War II History. It was produced in 1943 by Ford for the war and is technically a Ford GPW. It has all original metal and was a frame off restoration. It has a spring over lift by advanced adaptors with a Chey Saginaw 3 link steering conversion also from advanced adaptors. It has a Chevy 4 bolt 350 motor with a comp cam and Turbo 350 automatic transmission with a T18 Transfer Case. Custom aluminum radiator from Ron Davis with dual electric fans. It has fender well headers and new brake lines. It needs some final touches like a speedometer and gas gauge.”

1942 GPW Oakland, CA $6,000

UPDATE: Price dropped to $6000.

(01/31/2013) Numbers matching according to the seller, but still plenty of work left.

“1942 Ford GPW war jeep. This is a matching numbers vehicle and therefore considered the best choice for an accurate, period restoration. Matching number Ford GPWs are almost impossible to find, due to the fact that the motor pools would change-out engines as needed and not rebuild and replace the same one.
Also, this is an excellent restoration choice due to the condition. The jeep has not been modified at all, with the exception of the addition of a roll bar, and retains all of the correct parts. Jeeps of this era have usually been modified to an extreme. After the war, bought surplus, they were used on ranches and farms, for hunting and survey work–and in recent decades, extreme off road use. Each brought its own modification.
This rare bird has a body–the tub– in rare un rotted/smashed/chopped up condition. This adds a great deal of value for the final restoration product.
It has not been run in a couple of decades, but was driven until it was parked. The engine turns over easily, without a wrench needed.
What matching numbers means: The frame # and the engine # match. There are no numbers on the bodies of this type, other than the data plate, which unfortunately is gone.
The tires are suitable for rolling around, but it will need a trailer for transport.
This GPW is the one all the serious restorers are looking for. As complete restorations go, it will be easier than most, due to the condition and completeness.
Asking 10K. The price may go down in several months, but for now that’s it, so don’t bother with offers unless you want to go on the waiting list.
Not interested in trades, I need the cash. The truck is near east Oakland, California, across the bay from San Francisco. Please reply via this ad. Can be shown during the week as well as weekends. Please be a nice person, i.e. don’t waste my time if you don’t have the cash.
See the pictures here on the link below for Photobucket.
Have a great day.

(08/18/2012) The body and frame appear in very good shape.  The price is a bit high given it doesn’t run at the moment.
