About eWillys
Welcome to eWillys.com, a website for vintage jeep enthusiasts. I update this website nearly every day with jeep deals, jeep history, interesting reader projects, jeep related info, and more.
These quick searches can help you find things on eBay. People list in the wrong categories all the time, so don't be surprised to see brochures in the parts area for example. This section used to be split into jeeps, parts and other categories, but recent changes to eBay will require this information to be recoded.
The links to posts below show jeeps grouped by models, condition, and other ways. Some of these jeeps are for sale and others have been sold. If you are unsure whether a vehicle is still for sale or not, email me at d [at] ewillys.com for more info.
Importantly, the allure of buying a project jeep can be romantic. The reality of restoring a jeep can be quite different, expensive and overwhelming without the right tools and resources. So, tread carefully when purchasing a "project". If you have any concerns about buying a vintage jeep, or run across a scam, feel free to contact me for help, comments or concerns .
This might be worth a look. The seller lists this as a 1951, but these weren’t made until 1953.
“1951 m-170 military jeep ( same as cj 6) Original minus the motor, it has a buick v-6 226 Had it running 4 yrs ago and at that time I put more than a grand into it but since then I’ve lost interest.”
Mark found this jewel of a PDF at Roscommonequipment.com. We’ve seen a few of these fire jeeps for sale over the years. This document provides some insights into how the pumps work and the type of modifications that were added. The document contains instructions, specifications and detailed drawings.
Pascal forwarded this unique collection for sale on eBay. It includes, an MB,M38,M38A1,M170,M151A1,M422A1. Lots of pics.
“Description
Up for sale is a unique collection of the span of the military jeep generations. Our founder has been collecting these Jeeps for decades and has decided to sell his collection in its entirety.
Over the past decades, our founder collected the cream of what came by our doors, and stored them away in his personal collection. As we are also one of the biggest Jeep Parts distributors in the USA this was a relatively easy task, both to find these jewels and to refit them with whatever parts that were needed. Part can be found at Jeeps Surplus in Oroville, CA. The only vehicle in this collection not running is the “1960 AMC M422A1 MITY MITE”, which hasn’t had any engine work.
The purchase price for the entire jeep collection is $100,000.00. We will not be selling these jeeps individually.”

“I have for sale my 1962 Willys Jeep m170 ambulance. It is basically like a military Willys m38a1 except it has a longer wheelbase. Being military it has the dana 44 axles and heavier duty leaf springs. It currently does not run as it needs the wiring harness reattached. It ran and drove great 3 summers ago before I ended up parking it and and pulling the harness for another vehicle. The harness is there, it just needs hooked back up. It is a universal harness I ordered because the original wiring was a mess. It has no top. I have the original harness and a few extra manuals and parts to go with it also.”
“1954 Willys Jeep M170 military ambulance. All original except electric fuel pump. Runs, drives, and stops as it should. Mostly needs body work for restoration.”
(07/24/2011) I would be motivated to sell this jeep at the above price too!
“OWN A PIECE OF HISTORY!!! THIS WILLYS JEEP IS THE RAREST EVER PRODUCED. MY FATHER HAD THE ENGINE COMPLETELY REBUILT (HURRICANE 4) LESS THAN 500 MILES ON IT. IT IS ALL ORIGINAL. IT RUNS AND DRIVES ON THE FREEWAY. (60MPH) I OWN A CLEAN TITLE (IN MY NAME). ON THE DASH, IT READS CAMP PENDLETON (ORDINANCE DEPO). MUST SEE TO APPRECIATE. I NEED IT SOLD THIS WEEK SO I AM LETTING IT GO TO THE FIRST PERSON WITH $3850 CASH.”
(04/30/2013) The tailgate was cut, but this looks good otherwise.
“Rare- 1962 M170 Frontline Ambulance- original 24 volts- runs great- fresh carb and new batteries- ready for summer- body very solid- no cancer- you could easily restore to military original or just use as is – this is a longer version of the M38a1- parts are readily available- always stored inside- very rare military jeep- $3500”
“1955 Jeep M170, post-Korean war vintage, was in service as an ambulance Jeep. Now it is like a CJ 6. Previous owner “bubbified” this jeep, so much of the specific M170 details were not included.
The GOOD:
Jeep has original 5:38 axles, original suspension including rear sway bar.
I believe the transfer case & transmission may be a transplant, as the engine is the Jeep V6, great engine, but non-stock. Bell housing is clearly transplant for the V6. Rest of driveline is original & in good shape. Has 3-sp tranny. Transfer case appears to be Dana 18 twin stick. All seem to work fine.
V6 engine is in excellent shape, runs perfectly, no issues at all, original carb, oil-bath air cleaner, distributor.
Body condition is excellent, only very minor surface corrosion seen anywhere, including all the hidden & storage places, no rusted areas at all. The body condition must be seen to be believed.
Brakes appear to be recently serviced, the parts are not rusted or frozen. Brakes have been bled and work fine.
All lights, blinkers, stop, wipers, heater, all work fine – even BU light works! I attempted to retain the original wiring and labeling as possible, but needed to fix the “bubbified” electrical.
Gauges have been replaced with non-military, but similar. Speedo is NOS, however the cable needs to be replaced. All gauges (except speedo) work as expected.
Suspension appears to be original & in good shape, has zerk fittings everywhere for lubrication.
Emergency brake works and has reworked original bracket & parts. The previous owner had hacked this up.
Includes recent complete CJ6 softtop with doors. All parts in great shape.
New NOS type windshield & gasket, New NOS style cowl gasket
Non-original heater installed, but does have working defrost & heat.
NOS style seat brackets, but retrofitted non-original seats. Have not found original style M170 seats
Jeep starts & stops nicely, runs well, gas tank is excellent shape, everything works.
