This section used to be split into jeeps, parts and other categories, but recent changes to eBay will require this information to be recoded.

Importantly, the allure of buying a project jeep can be romantic. The reality of restoring a jeep can be quite different, expensive and overwhelming without the right tools and resources. “M-170 is the long wheel base ambulance version of the standard military Jeep. This Jeep is in excellent running condition with a freshly overhauled engine, new clutch and battery. The body is in good condition with no rust issues. Is is under a “non-op” registration but is street legal. It needs a windshield. The tires are new but the wheels and tires are not original military. An excellent candidate for restoration or use as is for running the hills.”

“I have a 1962 jeep M170. Runs good, clutch is good, 4wd is good, new batteries, newly sealed gas tank, carb cleaned, 13kmi just needs some restoration.”
Needs starter at the very least. No pics provided.
“I have a jeep M170 that i am selling to further other projects. Rust free jeep with original drive train. Missing soft top, tailgate and odds and ends. Needs a starter and has been converted to 12v system with alternator. New battery and aftermarket wiring harness available. Tires.are aftermarket and in good shape. Great project truck and a very rare jeep. Production numbers are thought to be as low as 4500 ever produced. Will consider partial trades for guy stuff. Has some rust issues, but runs.
“For sale is a 1955 Willy’s M170. This is the ambulance that the mitary used along side the M38A1. The only difference is the frame is extended to accommodate stretchers. It has the flat head four cylinder motor and a three speed transmission. It has hi and low range with four wheel drive hi and low. It does run. The only problems are on the passenger side floor board and fender as you can see in pictures have started to rust and the floorboards will need replacing eventually. The place on the side could be bondoed and painted up. Also it comes with extra parts. A transfer case, a transmission, and some other miscellaneous stuff. I have about $3000 in the jeep but need it gone so I will consider offers. My number is 334-703-0945. Call me if you have anymore questions.”

This might be worth a look. The seller lists this as a 1951, but these weren’t made until 1953.
“1951 m-170 military jeep ( same as cj 6) Original minus the motor, it has a buick v-6 226 Had it running 4 yrs ago and at that time I put more than a grand into it but since then I’ve lost interest.”
Mark found this jewel of a PDF at Roscommonequipment.com. We’ve seen a few of these fire jeeps for sale over the years. This document provides some insights into how the pumps work and the type of modifications that were added. The document contains instructions, specifications and detailed drawings.
