UPDATE: **Status Unknown** Was on eBay.
This is interesting because it is being sold by the Department of Corrections of Colorado.
“Ready to be restored, minimal rust, body solid. Vehicle runs, hard to start, any known mechanical problems are noted; if none are noted, none were identified when the vehicle was turned in. Vehicle has: minimal body damage, dents and dings, minor rust and peeling; NO EMISSIONS, must be registered outside AIR counties or sold to dealer; DR 2023, no brakes, unsafe to drive; tread: average wear, ~ 50 % remaining; pitted windshield; vinyl cloth seat, metal floor.”
UPDATE: Still Available
(10/04/2009) There’s a variety of minor issues with the dashboard, but it generally appears in good condition.
“1951 m38 restored 5 years ago. all origional body. no rust rebuilt engin, and transmission 12volt. approx 700 miles since rebuild.”
This looks pretty stock and still sports a 24 volt system. That’s pretty funny, as I was talking with Van today (he purchased one of my Champs) and he said that 24 volt M-38s were hard to find. True, I said, but I still find them … and voila …
“This is a great older Military Jeep w/original 34000 miles 95% original parts(have re-built orininal fuel pump) Was on road w/SC tag till last fall. Perfect for off rail restoration.I have had this Jeep for many years.Clean title.24 Volt. Will run,all 4whl. drive in working order.I am too old and without resources to restore properly
My phone # is 864-391-2032”
UPDATE: **SOLD** Was $1500.
Unusual paint job.
“solid jeep. flat four(60 hp) needs an alt and probably battery. new 31 in tires(less than 100 miles). new water pump and had the starter rebuilt about five years ago and have put less than 100 miles on it. has a broken header bolt that could be tapped out. wouldn’t hurt to have carb rebuilt built probably easier to replace engine with small v8 to provide more power the flat four is missing. don’t have time to play with it, so time to clean my garage. could be restored with alot of work, but more likely could be made into a crawler easier. this is not a work of art but has good componets: axles, tube, t-case and trans(3 speed), tires, frame, etc. have clear title. as is.”
UPDATE: **SOLD** Was $500
(07/13/2010) It’s got a big hole in the rear, but still runs. It also looks to have a winch on the front?
“1951 M-38, Body is in very poor shape, but the engine runs great. NEW starter. have NEW oil filter. Tuned up recently. E-mail questions.”
This might make a good restoration project if the seller’s description is accurate.
“Need something to keep you busy this winter? This vehicle needs to be restored. I purchased it completely apart and have no time for the restoration process. The body tub is in excellent shape, frame is perfect, and all parts are with it. All data plates are origanal and still on mounting plate. It is a great project for anyone with restoration experience, and time for the project.”
Let’s see … we have an 1947 “authentic WWII” style M-38. Someone’s confused. That said, it looks pretty good.
“1947 Willy’s Jeep for sale. Authentic WWII style with original interior, canvas cover, tools, etc. Great for any collector, hunter or camper. New wiring and semi rebuilt engine. Only 4,022 miles. Great 1940’s nostalgia feel. Needs minor mechanical work if you are wanting as an everyday vehicle. Please call if interested. 873-1477, leave message if no answer.”
UPDATE: **SOLD** Was $4900
(07/15/2010) This looks solid. I wonder if that really is a BW OD or a Warn OD.
“Original M38. New seats(front buckets and rear military style quick removable “clam shell style bench), tires, brakes. Runs great! starts right up and goes anywhere. Borg-warner O/D so it’ll cruise 60mph if you dare. It’s not a perfect museum piece yet, but high KBB is $17.5k for one like that.”
UPDATE: Price dropped to $7,999
(03/20/2010) It’s got a Buick V-6 225, but otherwise appears pretty stock. It does have those m-151(?) rims that cause it to have a narrow track.
“1951 Willys M38 Army JEEP, Korean War model, Dauntless 225 V6, 3spd trans, runs and drives great, Has new (Beachwood Canvas) top, (Sheller)steering wheel an much more.(Ready for summer fun) 401-624-6244 or 401- 559-6129”
