Importantly, the allure of buying a project jeep can be romantic. The reality of restoring a jeep can be quite different, expensive and overwhelming without the right tools and resources. “Original M38. New seats(front buckets and rear military style quick removable “clam shell style bench), tires, brakes. Runs great! starts right up and goes anywhere. Borg-warner O/D so it’ll cruise 60mph if you dare. It’s not a perfect museum piece yet, but high KBB is $17.5k for one like that.”

(03/20/2010) It’s got a Buick V-6 225, but otherwise appears pretty stock. It does have those m-151(?) rims that cause it to have a narrow track.

I wonder why this is sporting a Dana 23-2 rear end? The Dana 23-2 was used on the MBs/GPWs and early ’46. Next, the Dana 41 was used until the Late 1950 CJ-3As when the Dana 44 was installed. As best I can tell, all the M-38s used a Dana 44.
“Rare Korean War military Jeep. Good body; solid floors, has some rust on sides but easily repairable. Swapped in Chevy 350, stock, runs good. Comes with Advance Adapters Small Block Chevy to original Jeep T-90 transmission assembly($500 new), good transmission and good Transfer case, Dana 25 front axle, Dana 23-2 rear axle, 15 inch wheels with tires that are worn out. I will sell for $2,100 negotiable.”
Here’s a ‘professionally’ restored M-38 that doesn’t appear accurately restored. You can see it is missing the M-38 grille and grill mount, suggesting this is a CJ frame. It doesn’t have a M-38 gas tank and the inlet is in an odd position. The windshield vent should be bolted, not hinged. The rear of the frame looks civilian; Here’s the way the rear should really look. Note the drain piece where the hood connects to the body — that is from a CJ-3A. And, last but not least, the Dash Plate is installed upside down and backwards …

“This is the one a collector has been waiting for! hard to tell if it was removed from the assembly line! as you will see in the pictures, absolutely no rust now or ever. it has been sitting in storage and needs to go. what you see is what you get! basicly complete body and frame. NO ENGINE OR TRANS/ TRANSFERCASE, NO WIRING, LIGHTS, SWITCHES, GAUGES. all the difficult parts are there though, as you will see in the pics. these models are extremly rare and i’ve been in the jeep business for over 30 years and never seen one like this before. this jeep does not have a title and is being sold as parts only. if you had a rusted out m38, add your powertrain and electrics and you will be done! if not capable, call me. i do restorations. heads up, reserve is around the price of a new body kit.”
