Importantly, the allure of buying a project jeep can be romantic. The reality of restoring a jeep can be quite different, expensive and overwhelming without the right tools and resources. I’m not convinced this is actually a complete vehicle, given it appears the front driveline is missing. If the lift was reduced significantly, as well as the price, then the chances of a sale will likely increase. On the plus side, the body/hood/fenders look straight and the engine has been nicely fitted into the engine compartment.

This M-38(?) was just auctioned for $5500 on Monday on ebay, so it’s no longer for sale. The strange thing to me is that it appears to be a M-38, with the glove box and the passenger side cutouts, but it doesn’t have a tail gate or the battery box on the passenger side. Anyone have thoughts on why that might be?
“This is a 1954 Willy Jeep 4×4. It’s considered a 1954 because of its chassis, however, it was restored as a 1947. It has approximately 8,000 miles on the engine and a brand new battery. This Jeep has been garaged since restoration and has a beautiful, red color. It has a 3 speed, manual transmission and again, is 4×4. It does not have a top, however, they can be purchased. A family member restored the vehicle approximately 18 years ago and recently, signed the title over to me. “
This looks pretty good for a $500 jeep. It looks like it might be a M-38, though the driver’s side is missing the indents.

The seller inherited this jeep, but appears not to know much about them.
“1944 Willys Jeep. Engine runs good. Tires are excellent. Brakes needs some work. I inherited this vehicle some time ago and just don’t have the storage or time to devote to it. I’m listing it without a price because I really don’t know where to start. I’m willing to consider all offers.”
An ewillys reader named Paul is selling a 1951 M-38. With only 8,700 original miles, it’s in excellent shape. He’s asking $11,500.
“I have a 1951 willys M38 army Jeep for sale that only has 8,700 original miles. It is in very good shape with no damage or rust to the body. The paint is also very good. The jeep has underwater equipment, though I don’ t know if it is complete, but it appears complete to me. It is completely stock except for an aftermarket new top and five off road military tires. It also comes with extra parts. I’m asking 11,500 or best offer.”

With only 26,000 miles, this M-38 should have plenty of miles left. Except for the winch, it looks pretty stock to me.
