Importantly, the allure of buying a project jeep can be romantic. The reality of restoring a jeep can be quite different, expensive and overwhelming without the right tools and resources. This has an unusual hardtop. I’m unsure how much real value is here.

“1953 Willy’s M38A1 Military Jeep, Serial Number 63413, 1/4 ton, 4×4, showing 7712 miles, runs and drives as it should, all original except for after market lights to legally travel on the highways, a few switches on the dash and comes with a nice top and doors. Frame, and floor panels are rust free, original front and rear seats are in excellent condition. Also comes with clean Pa title, decals, and Military Service Manuals. Would not take much to make this Willy’s historically correct. Only 10,040 were produced that year. Inspections are welcome.”

“This is a 1953 Willys military jeep. It is not perfect but has been saved and redone in many areas. Mechanically good it runs and drives. The carburetor has been rebuilt and the jeep has new batteries. The 24 volt military electrical system in intact and most work. An electric fuel pump has been installed. Sure it is old and not a high speed truck. But rolling history in relativly good condition.”
Not a bad price given the amount of work that’s been done. Still, it’s only a 2WD vehicle. It does have a good looking Kelly hardtop.

“Selling my late husbands project car. Numerous up grades were started but never completed. The jeep also comes with several parts that were purchased or came with the jeep. New tires and spare, $2000.00 of work on engine, $700.00 for Media blasting paint and rust off rear and front seats, and numerous new parts (too many to mention) suspension work I paid for after his passing. I do have paperwork on the vehicle but it was never registered. Please only serious buyers. I do have a trailer for delivery in the area.”
Seller has removed a layer of blue paint which revealed olive drab. Otherwise, I would have thought this was an Air Force jeep. Maybe used by the Army, then. the Air Force?

“1953 M38A1 Willys Jeep. It is pretty much original though the electrical system has been converted to 12 volts. The brakes have been rebuilt and the tires are new. The canvas top is laying in the back on the floor. The exterior and interior were painted blue and the seats are upholstered in blue. I was going to freshen up the exterior paint. The blue easily came off with sanding leaving the original olive drab and markings. To restore it back to olive drab will take more time and energy then I have so it is for sale. Asking $6000.”
