This one had me scratching my head. First, it lacks a battery box lid on the cowl, so I thought it might be a CJ body, yet it also lacks “Jeep” on the sides, so probably not a CJ-5 body. The rear bumper suggests it is the USMC variant of the M-38A1. I”m guessing the body has been rebuilt.

UPDATE: **SOLD** Was on eBay. See alternative press photos of the M-38A1D setup here. This photo also appears on a 1960 spec sheet comparing the M-38A1, the M-274, and the XM443E1.

Original Post Feb 14, 2013: The photograph highlights a M-38A1D model also known as the Davy Crocket.
Both are rough.

“I have a 1957 and a 1942 cj2a willys Jeep for sale. Both were running when parked. The 42 has a bent frame that can be fixed or swap the whole thing to another frame. All the body is still solid and fairly straight. The 57 has been sitting up longer. The brakes are locked up and it’s in a little rougher shape. Both have been parked under a tree collecting leaves.”
This could be a good price.

Based on the description, I’m guessing the seller knows very little about jeeps. No pics provided.

“This Korean War Era Jeep is in excellent restored condition. One piece windshield. Flat front.
Extensive restoration on the drive-train: seals, bearings, front and rear differentials, transmission, transfer case, brakes and military PTO are all in 1st class condition. Engine runs well. Starter rebuilt.
New canvas top and plastic side windows. New authentic seat covers. No rust on frame or body.
Tool kit. Army repair manual. Additional restoration parts.
The late owner was unable to complete the restoration. However the work is 95%+ complete, and with a few weekends work and the correct unit stencils this classic Jeep is ready to join the 4077th or unit of your choice.”
Looks in good shape.

“Korean War Jeep, off the body restoration, 4cylinder Hurricane engine, 3 speed manual, 4 wheel drive, added locking hubs. Vehicle’s history = from the Marine Corp to US Air Force at Tinker, to the Civil Defense, to private ownership and found in a barn.”
