Brian, who’s now our Visiting European Correspondent (did I mention it’s a volunteer position?), found this beautiful MB in Vienna at the Heeresgeschichtliches Museum while visiting Vienna, Austria. Brian mentions that this museum of military history contains ‘everything from 1600 on up’ that’s war related.
Brian writes:
“This jeep was extremely clean. It is in such great condition that I wondered if it is a repo-tub. The only thing missing was the radio that mounts behind the driver. They indicate this jeep was used for patrols. Note the four allied flags: Russia, British, American and French; the jeep was issued to all four allied forces policing Austria and the flags denoted that no one country was ruling Austria.”

UPDATE: The winning bidder came out of nowhere and overbid the previous bidder by $1250 in the last 8 seconds, raising the winning bid to $4500.
Slat grilles are rare enough to make this worth looking at, but it’s certainly beat up a bit.
” I have a 1941-1942 Willys slat grill jeep for sale. It is in decent shape, I got it to run using a small can of gas going directly to the carb. The jeep has been sitting for some time and I didn’t want to trust the old gas tank. This was used as a hunting jeep. The previous owner who had it for 40+ years modified the back by cutting the rear panel at the seams, welding them to the sides and then adding a replacement rear panel…”
The ad says 1947, but the body in the pics looks like an MB or GPW. Apparently there are two jeeps and extra parts.
“2 Jeeps (military) great for hunting or restoration project, one running and the other used for parts. Also extra parts – grill, fenders, 2 extra blocks. Asking $3500 but can be flexible. Call 903-498-7089 for more information.”
I can’t say for certain, but the year would indicate this is a MB or GPW body and parts. No condition noted and no pics included. It’s been available since at least Nov 24th.
“1944 Willy’s body for sale. Body, fenders, and hood. $700.00 or best offer. Call 346-1650.”
It appears a bit rough and the pics don’t allow for much scrutiny.
