Importantly, the allure of buying a project jeep can be romantic. The reality of restoring a jeep can be quite different, expensive and overwhelming without the right tools and resources. Speaking of jeep mowers, Bob spotted this unusual jeep-looking mower.
UPDATE: Harry Warholak’s father built a Sidewalk Jeep from the plans in Popular Mechanics when he was a kid in Detroit. Ten years ago he restored it. It spent a year at the Chrysler Museum. Now he’s interested in selling it. You can contact him at 586-996-4103 if interested. He’s located in Georgia.
PREVIOUS POST (February 2013): This kids jeep design was published in the January, 1948, issue of Popular Mechanics and available for free at Google. It is powered by an electronic motor. It looks as difficult to build than a standard jeep! The notes added to this particular issue are interesting, too. The top note appears to reference a 1949 Christmas Handbook that might also include these drawings.

Just for fun …. Even includes a trailer.
“This is a homemade replica of a Willys type Jeep. Has a Volvo 3 speed manual transmission, Volvo rearend and front suspension. The motor is a 17HP Kohler V-Twin, runs and drives fine, but needs a 3 speed shifter. Guy who built it only used 1st and reverse, but with the 3 speed said it would run 35MPH, and that was too fast for his kids. Has a trailer hitch for working around a small farm, or use as a golf cart. Would be great for a camping vehicle in a campground.
Open to trades, but please be reasonable. Could use a few small things to make it nicer, windshield, rollbar….
Headlights and tail lights work, even has hydraulic brakes, and brake lights work.
Asking $1300 obo, or possible trades.”

John is selling this amusement ride jeep. Note that the steering wheel doesn’t turn the wheels. See description.
“For sale is a used Junior Pro Amusement Ride Jeep Fire Truck. 50 inches long x 21 inches wide x 15 inches high
These were originally built as pedal cars. This one was adapted to be used on an amusement ride. It has been repainted at least once. See pictures for condition.
EDIT 3/22/15 *Please note the next to last picture. The front wheels are fixed in position by a turnbuckle. The steering wheel is not connected to the front wheels. The steering wheel just spins and is just for effect.
There are some minor dings and there are signs of filler. No rust-thru. Some surface rust. Wheels are in very poor condition. Front spindles are worn.
Wheels and steering wheel are not original. No windshield or ladder included. The hitch and wooden seat back are not original parts. They were added as part of the amusement ride modifications.
