1947 Armored Ford Truck Colorado **SOLD**

UPDATE: **SOLD** Was on $4700.

Nothing to do with jeeps and not a 4×4, but I thought this Ford Armored F-3 truck was pretty unusual.

1947-ford-truck-armored-colorado1 1947-ford-truck-armored-colorado2

What we have here is a piece of history from perhaps the last days of the “old” west.

This is a postwar, 1947 Ford F-3 armored pickup truck. This is not a conversion or an adaptation, this is a purpose-built armored pickup for hauling something very valuable, though we are not sure exactly what.

The entire cab and doors are wrapped in 1/4″ steel plate. All windows are 5-ply glass measuring over an inch thick each. There are four pistol ports to fend off would-be thieves, and the only way inside the cab is via key – no handles or buttons. There are even instructions posted inside concerning truck rules and the behavior of its operators.

Our first guess is that this truck was used to haul lock-boxes of ore from one of the many mines around the region. The F-3 (1+ ton) designation and the utterly massive stack of spring leaves would indicate that whatever was being hauled was very heavy. And a lack of a tailgate suggests that whatever was being loaded or unloaded was done so via crane.

Our second guess is that it had something to do with the mint and the things of value both coming and going to that location. Denver has had an operating mint since 1906.

Construction is first-rate. The bumpers, bed, and even the rear fenders are made from extremely thick and heavy steel, and much time was put into the craftmanship. Gas welding is done to a very high standard.

Finally, GVW and other markings on the bedsides show that the truck was a part of a “Denver Unit” at some point. What unit – we do not know.

This truck has been sitting in a local collector’s care for the last ten years, and he finally has let it go. Last tagged in 1973. This is an opportunity to own a unique piece of wild-west history.

Condition of the truck is typical of Colorado vehicles – mostly dry, and little rust. There is some rust in the fenders and lower valance. And the floor of the bed shows some rot. Otherwise the truck is extremely solid, and has nothing but surface rust.

The original flathead-8 is long gone but the transmission remains, as does most of the rest of the mechanicals. Sadly the steering column was pinched at some point.

The truck rolls and moves easily.

$4700 or reasonable offer on this unique piece. In twenty years of buying and selling vintage vehicles, I have never had anything like this… everyone wants to talk about this truck!!!

63 photographs of the truck can be seen here:

UPDATE: **SOLD** Was $9500.

Buz found this well done update of a GAZ. Looks great.

“Great Sunday or Parade car. A modified 1972 Russian Jeep converted to a pick-up. A one of a kind vehicle, recently painted and modified. Many spare parts included. You’ve got to see this to appreciate it. Licensed in Washington as a Collector Vehicle. 2/4 wheel drive with compound low available. This is not a fast vehicle, but it will “climb a tree”. 70 HP 4 cylinder Volga engine, 5 speed manual trans. Runs well. It’s an eye catcher!!!”

“We call her JJ (stands for Japanese Jeep) is a 1975 HJ-38. The ID tag that is on the firewall reads “Manufactured in JAPAN by Mitsubishi Motors Corporation Under License From Jeep Corporation U.S.A. We found this treasure in Montana a few years ago and decided that we just had to have it. She has a 4cyl Mitsubishi gas engine, a 4 speed column shift transmission with a 2 speed transfercase. She has a 44 offset rearend (same as wagoneer quadra-trac), 30 series closed knuckle front end. She is a right hand drive and even has fractory AIR. She is a 4 door with Barn doors on the rear. The grille is the same as a CJ3B except with a Mitsubishi logo and instead of turn signals it has a place for the horns.. The hood is the same as a CJ3B except it says JEEP instead of WILLYS. She does need a new paint job but other then that she looks pretty good. Infact she even has the factory plastic still over the bench part of the back seat. As far as we know she is the only 4 door in the United States. Runs and Does need brakes but they will be fixed when you pick her up”

UPDATE: **SOLD** Was $17,850.

I don’t know what these are worth, but it’s pretty neat.

1952-landrover-orangecounty-ca

“Up for sale is an amazing example original Land Rover Series 1 was designed by Maurice Wilks and launched by the Rover Company of Solihull on 30th April 1948. It had an 80inch wheelbase and a sturdy box section ladder-frame chassis. The open back with 3 seats in the front design was heavily influenced by the American World War. The Land Rover quickly became popular, the wheelbase was extended during the Series one production to give the vehicle a greater load capacity. Originally produced with a 1600cc Petrol engine, Land Rover replaced this with the larger 2.0 litre petrol engine which was fitted between 1951 and 1958.

1959 M-274 Mule McHenry, IL **SOLD**

• CATEGORIES: Other 4x4s This site contains affiliate links for which I may be compensated.

UPDATE:  **SOLD** Was $8000.

Looks good.

“This is a rare 1959 m274 mule, it was made by willys. It has a true NOS(new old stock) 2 cylinder engine(not a converted generator, like some)with under 8 hours on it. The transmission has just been gone through and rebuilt by a professional mule transmission specialist. Has high and low gears. It runs like new, cause it basically is. It has 4 wheel steering and a light weight magnesium deck. It has new electric starter, battery and alt, to run lights(forward and rear) and 12 volt car charger(to charge gps or cell phone). Im using a 50cal waterproof box to house the starting key, light switches, and 12 volt charger. Under the frame, next to battery is a bracket that holds 2 like new 50 cal boxes. Mules only came with one drivers seat so I added a second seat and basket. Has metal canister holding bracket for water or fuel container. Brand new tires, new stainless steel gas tank. Seats are not original, they are the more comfortable, adjustable(seat slides forward and back wards to fit a tall or short driver) high-back military m35 seats that have been reupholstered. It has half inch rubber mat on top of the deck to keep paint from getting scratched or chipped. It has a black water proof box under the deck-next to the battery that holds all the electrical connections and keeps them safe and dry.Has a new data plate. This mule is in great shape. I built it for myself to keep, but I’m moving and have no safe place to keep it. There are not many of these machines left, and they continue to increase there value every year.”
