Importantly, the allure of buying a project jeep can be romantic. The reality of restoring a jeep can be quite different, expensive and overwhelming without the right tools and resources. After seeing all the interest in stainless on the website, Jeff has kindly provided us with a couple of looks at his all Jewels Flattie. It’s not just the stainless that makes this look nice, but also the accents, such as the execution of the rear bumper design. With a full cage on the inside and a winch, this jeep is quite capable of playing in the sand, the trail or wherever he wants to take it.

“This is my Semi stainless / galvanized jewels body kit mounted on a 1952 cj3a chassis. Currently powered by a chev 153 4cyl. I also own another complete kit that I have been collecting for the last 15 years. It appears there is a lot of interest in these stainless jeeps these days.”

Here’s the deal for today. The stainless steel fenders (Jewels?) and warn overdrive may be worth $1700 alone. Also interesting, this might be a DJ-3A body, as I don’t see a tailgate; however, this might also just be some kind of mod as well.

So, it’s clear that at least some jeep body parts are being exported from the Phillipines into the United States through 5 different US Resellers. Moreover, the company has been in business in some fashion since 1967, so it’s been doing it a while. So, perhaps there is some way to work with those importers to bring in stainless body parts (for those interested in non-Jewels stainless)?
Also interesting, MD JUAN sells 1945 MBs. No price is listed, however they do include an email address.
A reader wanted to share a pic of this beautiful all Jewels Flatfender he built over many years and recently sold. He says he already is at work on another jeep. Hopefully, he’ll provide us with some updates as works on his new project.
I spoke with Don Prine today (12/24/08). Don lives and runs a shop outside of Tacoma, Washington. I quickly learned that Don is quite the character. If I remember correctly, Don said he’s 91 years old and it’s clear to me he has no plans to retire. He’s at the shop regularly and he’ll be there on the 26th, he told me, snow permitting.
Don’s been in the jeep business for 40+ years. He told me stories of purchasing surplus jeeps in lots (one time 80 m38a1s), or as he put it, ‘the bank and I purchased them’. We talked about some of the other jeeps he had purchased and we exchanged some names of people we both knew in the Jeeping world. Then he kindly provided me several contacts of his own in the Boise area he said I should call. It did not take me long to figure out that Don has friends everywhere.
Obviously, these don’t appear every day. Note that this one has been stretched 6 inches, which makes it ideal for placing on a CJ-5 frame. It appears to have a solid back, like a DJ-3A.

HAS SPRAY IN LINER INSIDE OF TUB.ODOMETER READS 883 MILES I DO NOT KNOW IF THIS IS CORRECT OR NOT BUT BY THE CONDITION I WOULD SAY ITS GOTTA BE FAIRLY CLOSE.”
