1948 Montana Farmer-Stockman Jeep & Truck Ads

• CATEGORIES: Advertising & Brochures, Features This site contains affiliate links for which I may be compensated.

UPDATE: I mistakenly list a September 1949 Ad as a September 1948 ad. I removed that, so now there are only seven ads on this post.

Willys-Overland ran a series of Universal Jeep and Truck ads in the Montana Farmer-Stockman newspaper through 1948. The ads for the Universal Jeep focused on farming and ranching and appear most, but not all months (The paper is archived at the Library of Congress and appears to have been a bi-monthly publication). Below are seven ads I could find. In 1949, the number dropped to only 4 ads.

Hood Strips Ever a Factory Option?

• CATEGORIES: Features This site contains affiliate links for which I may be compensated.

Someone on Facebook claimed that hood strips were a factory option, though without specificity as to which model of jeep in which time period such an option was offered. I was not aware of this option nor have I seen any documentation for such an option. Of course, I’ve seen plenty of jeeps for sale with hood strips, but never saw much consistency among the designs.

So, anyone know 1) were hood strips ever a factory option? 2) were they ever a dealer option? 3) were they ever featured as a special equipment option? 4) if any of these are true, does anyone have documentation?

Here’s an example of wood strips:

1966 CJ-6 Klamath Falls, OR **SOLD**

• CATEGORIES: CJ-6 • TAGS: This site contains affiliate links for which I may be compensated.

UPDATE **SOLD** Was $13,200

(06/21/2018) David’s selling his CJ-6. It’s a got some useful updates.

“This CJ-6 is in excellent condition, very rare and comes with the desired Dauntless V-6 and a 4 speed Manual Transmission. The Jeep has had a lot of maintenance and upgrades done to it. It comes with an ExtremeAire on board compressor and all the tools you’ll need to inflate or deflate your tires for whatever terrain you’re in. The Wild Country XTX 255/85 16s are almost brand new. Rancho RS 5000 shocks, locking glove box and rear tool box. Fully carpeted, full padded roll-cage, and the seats are in excellent condition with the exception of one small split on the driver’s seat.

This Jeep comes from Eastern Oregon in high desert country, very easy on the body of older vehicles. The paint is in good condition, but there are a few cracks and worn areas, (see photos). The vehicle has been parked for a few years, but always indoors. The top is in excellent condition and looks almost new. It probably could use a good tune-up, but it runs and drives great. You would have to look very hard to find a CJ-6 in better condition. Feel free to email or text with any questions.”

1951 Wagon San Jose, CA **SOLD**

• CATEGORIES: Willys Wagons This site contains affiliate links for which I may be compensated.

UPDATE: **SOLD** Was $5400.

Seller has driven this wagon over Hwy 17. That’s a good roadworthy test. I’ve saw more accidents on that hwy in the three years I drove it than I have anywhere else.

I once saw a driver in a car right in front of me, going up hill, lose control, for seemingly no reason, and veer into the concrete median, then cross two lanes to hit the side embankment, then slam back into the median, before coming to rest in the slow lane.  I remember locking eyes with the female driver. Her eyes were big, seemingly saying, “what the hell just happened”. I also had two narrow escapes on that highway where I could have been seriously injured.

“I built this car about a year ago with my uncle. It drives, I had a blast working on it and taking it to and from Santa Cruz, yes it made it over the hill. But I just moved and can’t house it at the moment. Please let me know if you are interested”
