UPDATE: I ran this post back in 2010. I think it’s time for a repost.
If this commercial played on TV, I must have missed it.
On a tangential note (and a completely skippable one), one of the shots in the movie appears to show Jane Goodall with some chimpanzees. My tech company did a co-project with her and ESRI (the Microsoft of mapping software) for an ESRI event in San Diego. Long story short, we had a party after the event and rented a sushi restaurant. It turns out .. well … let’s just say she’s not a fan of eating fish (she’s a serious vegetarian I believe). OOOPPPSS! I’m not all that sure she really likes people either, but perhaps it was an off day for her (though I ended up sneaking her out of the back of the restaurant; but that’s another story). So, the tip of the day is, if you invite Jane to dinner, don’t serve Sushi!
Anyway, enjoy the video:
Geoff wants to let folks know about a friend of his who makes wood jeeps. If you are interested, email Fred at fredmaybee@Yahoo.com. It looks good!
“The following pictures are of a wooden Jeep that I had purchased from a local gentleman. He charges $30 plus shipping per copy for common wood. Prices go up depending on the choice of specialty species of wood, to cover the cost of the raw materials.”
UPDATE: The FC Roundup starts next Friday! I can’t believe we are already approaching late March!
15th ANNUAL JEEP FORWARD CONTROL ROUNDUP
March 23-25, 2018 1600 W. Colter St. Phoenix, Arizona 85015
This is your personal invitation to the “Most Excellent” FC-Only event. We invite all FC Owners and friends of Jeep Forward Controls.
It is our pleasure to invite you, with or without your Vehicle. This is where you will see some of the best authentic and original restored, ongoing projects or modified FC and FleetVans. You can learn a lot in a weekend, see the Military models of FCs, take detailed pictures, talk to other owners. Bring your FC items, toys, memorabilia, photos, artwork, literature, and manuals to display. See new FC related products and parts and special tools. FC Roundup event hats, T-shirts, will also be available. There is no charge for the event.
We are always so very grateful for your donation of any FC related items that are given away during the Saturday afternoon free raffle. Also on Saturday are the large BBQ Hot Dogs and much more, for lunch. Free refreshments daily. One of the best things that happens everyday, is that you are also invited to drive your FC / FleetVan or you might ride in an FC. We have FC-Only groups that cruise to and from breakfast and dinner.
It is important that I mention that our weekend is a very busy time for the Phoenix area, the best weather, Spring Training, and many other events. So book your hotel, before they are sold out. The nearby Grand Canyon University, (GCU Hotel on the internet) is the favorite. The 502 Hotel is now closed down. There are other hotels along the NW light rail route that comes from the Phoenix international Airport. Call me for transportation from the Montebello / 19th Ave. light rail terminal stop and for more information about anything, contact me.

UPDATE: **SOLD**
This is a project. The body looks very good.
“This is a very rare Navy Jeep with original data plate and all numbers match. The drive train has been rebuilt and the sheet metal is rust free and nearly perfect condition. I am 75 and not able to complete the painting and final assembly. I have a new wiring harness and all the parts. Needs to be put back together. I have over $10,000 invested. Not the data plate list frame number and engine number. This Jeep came from a U.S. base in Japan and the body was very rusted. I purchased the very best 1955 CJ3B I could find for the body. Price: $3,500 or best offer”
UPDATE: **SOLD** Was $11,000.

“I am reluctantly offering up my 1948 Willys cj2a don’t have to sell it but putting it out there if someone is interested I received this Jeep in Fairly neglected. Motor is very strong and a little unique it has a casting of the word special on the side runs good no smoke transmission and clutch have been replaced a Novak rebuild kit was used on the transmission. Wiring has all been redone and everything functions as it should. Motor has 20 lb of oil pressure at idle and 30-40 running down the road. Transfer case is noisy but functional I was going to rebuild it at some point down the road.
The front of the frame is pretty tweaked so I also have acquired a entirely new frame with axles rebuilt brakes pretty much all ready to go to swap everything on to. Pretty much everything has been fixed does have some rust under the toolbox and a little bit in the front floors. I didn’t do anything to the body because I thought it has great patina and looks good as it is. Lots of stuff has been done to this Jeep feel free to message me if you have some questions or want to get some more specifics. It comes with a clear title in my name and has a brand new bestop tiger top installed. $4800.00”
UPDATE: **SOLD** Was $900.
It’s rough.
“Buick v6 engine with a sweet Muncie 4 speed. Most everything there just needs some work.”

“1942 Press Photo Group of girls driving a jeep drove pass 16-inch shells stack. This is an original press photo. Women At Home On The (Firing) Range Women who just a short while ago thought of a range as something to cook on and powder as something to pat on their faces are now doing the work of men on the firing range at the Army Ordnance Department’s providing grounds at Aberdeen, Md. They don’t just fool around with the light work, either. They fill shells with powder and prime them. They run huge cranes to assemble the big guns. And they load, clean, and fire everything from Garand rifles and Tommy guns to the big railroads guns. A group of the girls riding the range in a Jeep pass a huge stack of 16-inch shells. Photo measures 9 x 7.25 inches. Photo is dated 06-06-1942.”
