Born in 1893, Louie H. Ponnequin, a veteran of WWI, was fifty-five years old when he filed a patent in January 1948 for what appears to be the Clary Hubs. At the time, he was living in Hawaii, so it’s possible that being around the military bases there he saw a need for a simple free-spinning jeep hub. Though Arthur Warn invented his standard spinning hub cap a year earlier in 1947, there’s no evidence that Warn ever patented his “summer hub”.
The Clary Flange (a couple of these pics are seen in this thread, but I don’t know the original source):

“52 Willys cj3a. Bought for a toy and mostly everything worked, clutch started going out so I decided to pull the motor and tranny, and planned to restore/beef up. However unexpected expenses are forcing me to sell.. motor is a 60s buick 3.8L v6 odd fire. 300v8 pistons, light cam, offenhouser intake manifold, Carter 400cfm carb, flow master dual exhaust. Ran fine when I pulled it, just smoked a little on start up, was just gonna go through it and do a little cleanup and replace gaskets, but runs strong as is. Saginaw 4speed. 4wd works fine. 4 wheel disc brakes. Tires are recaps, fine for the woods but rough on the street. I do have the title and a complete parts list with numbers for everything not original”
UPDATE: **SOLD** Was $2500.

“UP FOR SALE, RESTORED 1951 JEEP WILLYS OVERLAND CJ3A. This Jeep is an older restoration, but it still looks great. It was restored by an man in Ky, then it sat on display in a dealership in Murray Ky until the dealership closed. It is all original with the flat head four engine. Tires still like new. Just installed a new carburetor. NADA Average retail is $14,650, & High retail $23,300. This Jeep definitely fits between those two categories. My price is well below that. Detailed pictures are included. Please review all pictures. All sales are final…$12,500 or trade for ????”
