Importantly, the allure of buying a project jeep can be romantic. The reality of restoring a jeep can be quite different, expensive and overwhelming without the right tools and resources. This Hong Kong Extra Edition didn’t include a date, but the Volume and No suggests this is the September 1960 issue. Much of this issue covers the Hong Kong TV show, but there is some Surrey info on page six and seven. Also, the way the paper unfolds is kind of awkward, so I’ve added a few extra scans below.

“Runs good, drives good, will take you anywhere. It’s a 1958 M274A4 mule with the magnesium frame, and a 2 cylinder Morse Fairbanks engine produced by Brunswick with only 189 hours, 3 speed manual with high and low. Also equipped with 4 wheel steer, and full time 4X4 and everything works. Comes with a winch, trailer hitch, has tons of lights. Everything on it works as it should, may need a new battery.”

“1959 WILLYS CJ3 JEEP ( NO TRADES ) RESTORE PROJECT (NOT RUNNING ) · KOEING EXTENSION AND DUMPING BED · Other_body_style · Driven 150,000 miles OVER HEAD VALVE 4 CYLINDER ORIGINAL ENGINE WITH A REBUILT HEAD. THE BOTTOM END WILL NEED REBUILT . A lot of new parts … new seats , some wiring , fuel pump , hoses , spark plugs . CLEAR COLORADO TITLE . FOUR WHEEL DRIVE , ALL ORIGINAL DRIVE LINE. No rust though body . This is a unrestored original little jeep that has not been on the road for decades . I have not tried to start or run the engine , it may start and run but would probably have low compression . The brakes will need gone though . At least adding brake fluid and bled . “This a Script Ford GPW in need of a lot of work. Definitely worth saving, however I’m not the guy for this one. It was part of a bulk purchase I did in order to get the one I wanted. It is crusty, but has a motor trans and transfer and axles. Haven’t turned motor, and don’t have paperwork. It will take some research on your end, however It did come from an old timer that has had it forever, so its long off the books”

“1943 Ford GPW. Frame of restoration with original and reproduction parts. Original style Willy Overland Type 440 Go-Devil 134 CI engine. 12 volt system, pointless distributor, reproduction carter carburetor with period correct reproduction wiring. Runs well, not a trailer queen. Restored to represent USAAF 15th Air Force MP vehicle with period correct light and siren. Must see to appreciate it”
