This might be worth a look, but doesn’t run.

“This a 49 Willy’s Jeep Civillian, It does not run now but it wouldn’t take much, just needs a little carb work. The pictures pretty well show the condition, it would make a good restoration project or the parts alone are worth what I’m asking for the whole Jeep. I do not have the title but it can be aplied for easy enough. Asking $1800 obo. Call: 501-815-4585”

Jeep Mule Train at St. Simons Island in Georgia

• CATEGORIES: Features, Unusual • TAGS: This site contains affiliate links for which I may be compensated.

I put this together based on some research tonight.  If anyone has corrections or additions, please let me know.

For years, though I couldn’t say how many, Marvin Long ran a Jeep Train that was also known as the Mule Train. As these photos show, he used at least two different types of jeeps to pull a series of two wheeled carts along the beaches of St. Simons, Island.  At least one source mentioned the train rides were for going out to the beach to collect shells.  Whether this was the principle reason or just one of the events is less sure.  Whatever it was they got to do, the ride was popular, as this article from the September 6, 1952, issue of Billboard Magazine described:

An early Jeep train can be seen in this photo from a book called St. Simons Island by Patricia Morris, which was also made into a post card.  It looks like there might be a jeep all the way in the reason, too.

The use of a CJ-2A was followed up in 1955 (or later) by a CJ-5. This image can be found at this website:  http://ga67.herobo.com/island6.html

Mr. Long arrived at St. Simons in the late 1940s to take over the stables there.  He managed these for decades.  The land (all or most of it?) on which the stables were situation has been turned into  the St.Simons Land Trust.

1945 MB Prior Lake, MN **SOLD**

• CATEGORIES: MB • TAGS: This site contains affiliate links for which I may be compensated.

UPDATE: **SOLD** Was on eBay

The floor boards on this look pretty solid.

“This is a very complete 3-4-45 MB. Serial number is 422765. I have the original data plates as shown in the photo. Jeep is out of Wyoming so it has minimal rust. An easy restoration project! Engine is an MB engine but does not have a matching serial number. Correct T84 transmission and model 18 transfer case. Engine compartment is very complete and original. Strong running engine, carries 40 psi oil pressure at idle. Transmission and transfer case shift smoothly and do not make any funny noises.
The frame is in average condition for it’s age. Left rear upper shock mount is gone and a gusset plate has been welded in place. Looks to be an easy removal and there are two upper shock mounts included in the spare parts box to make the repair with. Front frame horns are in good shape. Have been boxed in but again, easy removal. Rear crossmember is damaged and will need replacing.
The steering bellcrank that should be on the axle has been converted to a cj3a type on the upper crossmember. Looks like it could be removed without to much difficulty.
I have installed a number of new parts to make it run and drive reliably. Here is the list: new deep mud exhaust system complete with a correct hanger kit, pedal shaft A495, Fuel pump and hose, fan belt, oil hoses, spark plugs, points, rotor, condenser, starter switch, z tube with seal kit, clutch link rod, generator pulley and a new battery. I have installed 4 new tubes and tires on original combat wheels and will include a 5th for the spare rim.
I will also include a new US made crossmember kit, a new US made front bumper and gussets along with the correct steering bell crank and bell crank repair kit.
All of the spare parts you see in the photos are included.
Clear Minnesota title.”
