Importantly, the allure of buying a project jeep can be romantic. The reality of restoring a jeep can be quite different, expensive and overwhelming without the right tools and resources. This looks in good shape, though not 100% original.
“1953 M38A1 willys military jeep. Runs Good,new NDT tires,brake shoes,master cyl,wheel cyls,radiator,mirrow,hood latches some new gauges.Body off reconditioned and painted.CJ5 drive train.Converted to 12v with an alternator.engine previously rebuilt has a tag on it.$5000 OBO”
No pics provided. This one confuses me as the engine bill was paid, yet the seller still has the engine?
“Willys Jeep parts this was a complete jeep it was taken apart to be restored the frame and most of the parts have been wire brushed primed and painted the frame has been primed and painted black , the hood and grill have all been primed with some minor body work needed , the engine has been totally rebuilt with a new clutch and pressure plate bolted on . The body of the jeep is there but not in real good shape but I’m sure it can be fixed , the person restoring this jeep past away unexpectedly his daughter paid the bill on the engine to get it back , the total engine bill was more than the total price now any questions please call or text 270-847-7145”

This must be a repro body of some kind. I haven’t encountered too many MB/GPW repro bodies with the tool indents on the passenger side. I wonder if there are any tool indents on the driver’s side?

(01/30/2012) I believe this is a column shift CJ-2A with a MB/GPW Grille and windshield. The front end is a bit heavy looking.

After a day down at the Seattle Waterfront, I’m turning in early. However, Roberto forwarded some videos that ought to keep everyone busy until tomorrow’s updates. So, check out the next two posts.
Mitch dropped by my parents’ house tonight to have me sign his book and to chit chat. He told me he isn’t a big reader, but he sat down and read the book in only three sittings. He loved it, which was great to hear, and has a waiting line of people who want to read it. I mentioned that I was thinking about getting a booth at the Moonshiner’s Swapmeet in March (March 11 in Puyallup). He suggested that someone might have an indoor booth they’d like to split or share with me. I figured that was a good idea, so if anyone has a booth at that main hall and wants to split or have me stay there and sign/sell books, let me know. For those that don’t know, the book has some PNW history, racing history, a few jeep trips and more in the book (though it is much more than just about jeeps).
In the meantime, here is Ann and I enjoying the beautiful scenery today (57 degrees and sunny!)
